And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive top performer revealed

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Football Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

Xavier Homelvig, Alexandria. The senior was a key reason why the Cardinals gave up a season-low six points and held Brainerd scoreless after the first quarter. Homelvig led the defense with 13 total tackles in the 47-6 rout.

Top performer candidates

James Fontaine, Polk County West. The senior made 13 total tackles, including one for a loss, and recorded his first interception of the season in the Thunder’s 28-8 win over Warroad.

Tim Gilmore, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. The junior paced  the defense, making two tackles for a loss and tallying 15 total tackles, in a 40-14 victory against Yellow Medicine East.

Teddy Halvorson, Becker. The Bulldogs handed Delano its second consecutive loss thanks to Halvorson and the defense. The junior amassed 10 solo tackles and one sack in the 26-13.

Micah Hamson, United South Central. The Rebels' stingy defensive line shined in a 33-6 defeat of Mayer Lutheran, as three players finished with double-digit tackles to help the team total 98 for the game. Hamson, a junior who had 47 tackles in his previous four games, led the effort with 25 total tackles.

Eli Mau, Chanhassen. The junior who registered 12 total tackles to power the Storm past Waconia 19-13 in overtime. Mau and the Chanhassen defense held the Wildcats scoreless in the extra period to seal the victory.

Kevin Miller, St. Paul Highland Park. The senior led the Scots to a 26-12 victory at St. Paul Central, where he accumulated 16 total tackles (nine solo), including one for a loss, and one sack.

Daniel Obwaya, Blaine. The senior had one sack and a season-high 12 total tackles to help boost the Bengals to first win of the season — a 37-15 victory against Roseville.

Brayden Peil, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda. The sophomore, who made 11 total tackles in five games last season, made a career high 20 tackles (10 solo) in the Raiders’ 36-34 loss to Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman. Peil has 50 tackles in his last three games combined.

Cole Sanow, Minneota. The senior finished with 14 total tackles (one for a loss) for the second time this season as the Vikings defeated Dawson-Boyd 28-7.
