We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.

Other games to keep an eye on

Delano vs. Zimmerman, 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30. Two teams that had strong seasons a year ago meet again in Week 1. Delano is looking to avenge its only regular-season loss from last year when it travels to Zimmerman.

Elk River vs. Moorhead, 7:05 p.m., Friday, Aug. 31. Moorhead hung around with eventual Class 5A state runner-up Elk River in last year's opener. The Spuds will be looking for a statement win on their home field this week—seeking to end a skid in which they've missed two state tournaments.

Lakeville North vs. Burnsville, 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30. Burnsville will look to put last year's two-win season in the rearview mirror when Lakeville North comes to town. A victory over the Panthers would be a statement win for Blaze second-year head coach Vince Varpness.
