Sept. 16: The Royals look to reclaim the league's throne after relinquishing it to the rival Knights last season.

Before the debut of district play two seasons ago, the Rogers football program was a dynasty in the Mississippi 8 Conference for the better part of 10 years. The Royals won six straight league titles (2009-14) before being unseated in their first year as a member of the North Central District Blue Division.

It seemed destined that the team to knock off Rogers would be rival St. Michael-Albertville. The Knights earned a share of the final Mississippi 8 title two years ago and handed the Royals their lone league loss last season in a 26-7 game.

That rivalry only intensified when St. Michael-Albertville ended Rogers’ season with a 28-21 win in the Class 5A, Section 6 title game en route to its state title.

If the division is to be a two-team race again, then this may be the most important game on the schedule. It makes this matchup between two league favorites and rivals is a no-brainer for this week's Top Game of the Week.
