Sept. 18: The Crimson hope their matchup with Wayzata ends in a win, unlike their other games this season against ranked opponents.

We have reached the midway point of the season, and contenders in the newly formed districts are beginning to cut away from the pack in the standings. There are several key games this week that will determine which teams remain on top, or if the standings will be shaken up.

This week's top game features two Class 6A contenders ranked in the latest Associated Press state high school football poll.

No. 8 Maple Grove is 2-2 overall after losing games to the top two ranked teams in the class, but the Crimson sit just one game back in the West Metro South subdistrict standings with a 2-1 record after losing to No. 1-6A Eden Prairie last week. Maple Grove hopes to bounce back this week against an undefeated Wayzata team. The No. 4 Trojans (4-0) are 3-0 in league play and tied atop the standings with the Eagles.

In an early season schedule filled with games against top-tier teams, Maple Grove's trip to Wayzata this week is yet another test for the Crimson, who are still looking to knock off a top contender.
