Mankato West boasts Minnesota's highest scoring offense, averaging over 58 points per game, and it is a key reason the Scarlets are undefeated and sitting atop the Associated Press' Class 5A state high school football rankings.
Mankato West's firepower could be tested Friday when the Scarlets travel to Owatonna to take on the Huskies, who are ranked No. 3 and are the reigning state Class 5A champion.
Last season Mankato West nearly ruined Owatonna's undefeated season as the Huskies eked out a 24-21 victory.
The Scarlets returned 10 seniors on offense who remember the game and likely will be looking to avenge the close loss.
They will have their chance as Owatonna is still trying to regain its championship form. Huskies are 3-0 but have been far from dominant, recording three close victories.
Owatonna defeated Winona 14-6 in Week 1 and needed overtime to edge Rochester Century 40-37 in Week 2. The Huskies turned in a far from perfect performance and still won 35-14 in a Week 3 matchup with Faribault.
The Scarlets, however, have been firing on all cylinders as they picked up blowout victories against Albert Lea, Northfield and Mankato East.
Will Mankato West be able to soothe the sting of last year's heartbreaking loss? Will Owatonna's matchup with a rival result in the Huskies regaining their championship form? Those questions make this clash of undefeated teams our Top Game of the Week.
