A 63-yard fumble return and a 73-yard kickoff return helped Sam Lynch total 210 all-purpose yards.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s scored on six of its seven first-half possessions and coasted to a 48-13 win over St. Louis Park.

The first half featured a nine-for-nine passing performance by Keaton Studsrud, who threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns while rushing 58 yards and another score.

Sam Lynch turned in the best all-around performance of the night, amassing 210 yards of all-purpose yardage, capped by a 63-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Lynch also factored in the game’s first touchdown as he returned to opening kickoff 73 yards to the Orioles’ 14-yard line. Three players later Callaghan Commers bulled his way into the end zone from three yards out to give the Red Knights a 7-0 lead just one minute, three seconds into the contest.

On its next possession, BSM moved 51 yards on eight plays in 2:11 with Studsrud completing three passes and rushing four more times, the final carry resulting in an eight-yard touchdown.

SLP appeared moved the ball to its own 49 on its next possession but back-to-back quarterback sacks by Carter Burn put the Orioles in a third-and-21 situation and they were forced to punt for the third consecutive time.

Studsrud then marched his team 82 yards in eight plays, capping the 3:19 drive by scrambling to buy time before find Peter Watkins wide open inside the five-yard line and the senior running back trotted into the end zone for a 21-0 Red Knight lead.

After three consecutive three-and-out possessions by the two teams, BSM got the ball at its own 27 with 8:55 to play in the opening half and Jack Goldstein at quarterback.

Goldstein would complete a pair of passes on the drive but it was Nate Barry who starred, carrying the ball five times for 63 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown rush on a fourth-and-four which extended the home team’s lead to 28-0.

A fumble recovery by Michael Ryan, who made his first start as a Red Knight at defensive end, set BSM up at the SLP 38 and, five plays later, Studsrud scrambled again before finding Lynch in the back of the end on his final play of the game.

The Red Knights got the ball back one final time in the first half, with 1:11 to play, at their own 39. Goldstein proceeded to complete three of four passes on the five-play drive, the last of which was a 41-yard scoring pass to John lager with 16 seconds to play.

The Orioles responded in the second half, scoring on its first two possession and appearing to be headed for a third TD when they drove to the BSM 24.

Quarterback Quinn Livdahl then attempted a backward pass to running back Bryant Griffin, on which he failed to connect. Lynch then picked up the loose ball at his own 37 and raced the length of the field for his second touchdown of the game.

In all, BSM rolled up 414 yards of offense, 234 of which came through the air while 199 came on 46 carries.
