It was a hot night at Buffalo Community Middle School and the teams were fired up. On the second drive of the game the Bison drove down to the Knights 3 yard line but stalled and had to settle for a field goal.
The Knights would not be down long as Austin Wick returned the kick for a 95 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. In a matter of 15 seconds, the score went from 3-0 Buffalo, to 7-3 STMA.
Chris Kartes owned the second and third quarters. Starting with a blocked punt Kartes then followed that up with a 65 yd and an 11 yd rushing touchdown.
"When I came through I was only worried about going completely for the ball" Kartes said. "When I turned around I didn't even know that I blocked the ball at all. I just saw my team cheering and the ball was over by the Buffalo sideline."
Tyler Berg of St. Michael-Albertville stopped a big drive from Buffalo late in the 4th quarter by intercepting a big pass and sealing the game.
The Muddy Crow, the traveling trophy for the Buffalo/STMA game is back in the Knights trophy case. St. Michael-Albertville has won the trophy eight of the nine years since the trophy started.
