Cannon Falls capitalizes on turnovers to win big

In a shutout game, Cannon Falls prevailed against Pine Island 26 to 0 at Cannon Falls High School in Cannon Falls on Wednesday. Neither team managed to put points on the board in the first quarter. Cannon Falls added 7 points in the second quarter to break the tie and take the lead. Halftime saw Cannon Falls ahead 7 to 0. Cannon Falls's defense shut down Pine Island for the rest of the game. Neither team scored in the third quarter so Cannon Falls conserved its lead. Cannon Falls scored 19 points in the fourth quarter improving its score and winning the game.

In the second quarter, Cannon Falls's Hunter Johnson tossed a 5 yard pass to Quinton Lindow for a touchdown. This put Cannon Falls ahead for good. In the fourth quarter, pushing forward, Cannon Falls's Ian Althoff blew through the defense, rushing 43 yards scoring a TD. Cannon Falls fired up their running game when Althoff once more rushed ahead to score another TD. Cannon Falls fired up their running game when Andrew Anderson ran for a touchdown.

With fewer yards but more points Cannon Falls's offense got the job done. Having an awesome day, Ian Althoff carried the ball for 149 yards on 23 carries. Althoff reached the end zone twice. Hunter Johnson got 122 yards on 11 completions out of 18 passes attempted. Johnson was intercepted once. In receiving, Jordan Lundell grabbed four receptions for 64 yards and had one touchdown grab.

Cannon Falls ended the game with a record of 5-3. Pine Island finished the game with a record of 1 win and 7 losses.
