Ryan McGuire comes up big as Chanhassen snatches 7 point lead in 1st quarter, goes on to win the game

Ryan McGuire did the lion's share of scoring for Chanhassen, throwing two touchdowns and rushing for another one.

Chanhassen defeated Farmington 28 to 3 at Chanhassen High School in Chanhassen on Friday. Chanhassen tallied up 7 straight points to jump in to the lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter Chanhassen outscored Farmington 7 to 3 and retained the lead. Halftime saw Chanhassen up 14 to 3. Chanhassen's defense shut down Farmington for the rest of the game. In the third quarter Chanhassen scored 7 straight points to keep in the lead. Chanhassen scored 7 straight points in the fourth quarter improving its score and winning the game.

In the first quarter, Chanhassen got things going when Ryan Licau ran with the ball 8 yards over the goal line. This put Chanhassen ahead for good. In the second quarter, next, Ryan McGuire ran forward 2 yards for a TD. Next however, Reid Taubenheim nailed a 22 yard field goal for Farmington. In the third quarter, in return, Chanhassen's Ryan McGuire tossed a 30 yard pass to Jared Lea good for a TD. In the fourth quarter, continuing with more, Chanhassen's McGuire hit the end zone again with a 20 yard pass to Jared Lea for a TD.

Their running game made the difference for Chanhassen. Having a huge day on the ground, Nathan Johnson carried the ball forward for 116 yards on 24 carries. Ryan McGuire went 3 for 10 passing for 47 yards. Jared Lea grabbed two passes for 50 yards and had two touchdown grabs.

Farmington tried to win by passing. Darren Beenken threw for 113 yards with 14 of 24 passes completed. Unfortunately, Beenken was picked off twice. Mac Bassett made five grabs for 59 total yards. Athen Ashton ran for 74 yards with 15 carries.

The Chanhassen defense contributed to the victory, holding Farmington to 80 yards rushing and 113 passing, and kept the pressure up with two sacks. They picked off Farmington twice.

Chanhassen extended their winning streak to 3 games and now has a record of 4 and 2. Farmington suffered their first loss and finished the game with a record of 5 and 1.
