It’s roughly 45 miles from Hutchinson to Orono. Yet the No. 4, Class 4A Tigers seemed right at home Friday at the Spartans’ stadium, their fans filling the bleachers and their offense filling the stat book.

Aided by two Orono fumbles, Hutchinson scored three touchdowns in a 3 minute, 47 second stretch in the first half, helping the Tigers cruise to a 41-14 victory over their Wright County Conference rival.

“They’re a good team. We kind of jumped on them right away and were able to get them down,” Hutchinson head coach Andy Rostberg said. “It was a good win, and we’ll take it, but we still have to get better.”

The Tigers scored in quick bursts from its multifaced option attack. They scored on long, sustained drives. They scored through the air. They scored on the ground. Whatever Hutchinson tried seemed to work.

Tigers quarterback McKinley Anderson finished with more than 100 yards passing and three total touchdowns — two through the air and one on the ground.

“We came out real good in the first half, real fired up, jacked up and ready to go,” Anderson said. “The first half was awesome. Everyone really played full potential.”

Hutchinson got on the scoreboard with 3:24 remaining in the first quarter, when senior fullback Evan Metag plunged into the end zone on a 2-yard run.

After Orono went three-and-out, Anderson hit Mitch Peterson on a beautifully thrown corner route that went 58 yards for a second score.

Orono fumbled on its next offensive play, and Metag capped a 31-yard drive with an 8-yard run just 1:13 into the second quarter.

From there the Tigers cruised.

Orono tacked on two scores late, both coming on passes from junior quarterback Ben Turnham.
