A look at games played to kick off the 2021 season.

Becker 28, Rocori 0: Carter Callahan ran for two touchdowns to lead the host Bulldogs past the Spartans. The victory was the 372nd for Bulldogs coach Dwight Lundeen, who is beginning his 52nd season as the Bulldogs coach. Lundeen, the only coach the Bulldogs football program has had, is third all-time in career victories among state football coaches. Verndale’s Mike Mahlen is the leader with 408 victories.

Hutchinson 44, St. Cloud Apollo 6: Aaron Elliot rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns and Charlie Renner contributed 82 yards rushing and two touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a road win.
Tigers quarterback Colin Nagel also ran for 82 yards as the Tigers rushed for 350 yards.
Renner opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 28-yard scoring run. Elliott scored on runs of 20 and 10 yards in the third quarter as the Tigers, who led 14-0 at halftime, opened a 28-6 lead.
Renner added a 22-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Brainerd 21, Coon Rapids 6: Marcello Getty threw two touchdown passes and Brandon Stark intercepted two passes to lead the host Warriors past the Cardinals. Both teams returned to Class 6A this year. Brainerd had been in Class 5A since 2013, while the Cardinals had been in Class 5A since 2017.

Delano 27, Chisago Lakes 26: The Tigers held on to outlast host Chisago Lakes. Chisago Lakes scored with 3:48 remaining to pull within one, but the Tigers stopped the ensuing two-point conversion attempt. The victory was No. 314 for Tigers coach Merrill Pavlovich, who is in his 46th season. Ashton Pearson rushed for all four of Chisago Lakes’ touchdowns. He scored on runs of 7, 36, 6 and 11 yards.
