Tigers dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, improve to 2-1

On Friday night, the Browerville Tigers were pitted against the 2-0 Ottertail Central Bulldogs.

The Tigers didn't know what to expect, with OTC coming off two impressive wins. The Tigers had lost their season opener to Barnesville, coming back in Week 2 to beat the Upsala/Swanville Area Patriots.

Browerville played well on its home field from the very start to easily defeat OTC 39-7.

“I think the first half may have been the best half of football our offensive and defensive lines have played in quite some time,” head coach Wayne Petermeier said. “They controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

With the domination at the line of scrimmage, the Tiger running backs found nice holes to run through. On the defensive side, the nose guard and tackles were able to shut down the Ottertail runs up the middle, allowing the outside linebackers to focus on containing.

“If these defensive linemen keep learning what their jobs are and execute like they did Friday, we can become a pretty good defensive team,” Petermeier said.

On offense, the Tigers ran the ball 60 times for a total of 382 yards. They only passed the ball twice, completing one for 18 yards for a total of 400 offensive yards on the night.

Ben Dreher led the way with 34 carries for 102 yards and three touchdowns. Trenton Wollenburg added 91 yards on 13 carries and Mitch Heid picked up 89 yards on 18 carries and one score.

The defense played very well, allowing 166 yards to OTC. The second quarter proved to be the deciding factor in the game as the Tigers allowed Ottertail only 13 yards of offense.
