Defensive Player of the Week: Week 5

Vote for your Week 5 Defensive Player of the Week.

Players are only included in the Player of the Week poll if their stats are entered on the Football Hub. If any coaches or members of their coaching staff would like to be set up to enter stats, please email john.kelsey@sportsengine.com. Stats must be entered by noon each Monday to be included in the POTW poll.

Defensive Player of the Week Candidates:

Sam Tibbits, Litchfield DB, senior: Tibbits picked off four passes as the Dragons rolled to a 49-27 win over Holy Family Catholic in Week 5. Litchfield takes on Hutchinson in a battle unbeaten East Central District South Division teams this week. 

Bobby Hosch, Columbia Heights LB, senior: Columbia Heights handed Minneapolis Patrick Henry their first loss of the season in Week 5 and Hosch played a large role. Hosch finished with 13 tackles, an interception and a half sack in the 22-21 win. He also ran for two touchdowns on offense. 

Max Huerta, St. Paul Harding DB, sophomore: Huerta recorded four tackles and intercepted three passes as Harding fell to St. Paul Johnson 16-7. 

Cam Kliber, Andover LB, senior: Kliber recorded nine tackles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery as Andover topped Centennial 22-15. Kliber's nine tackles led the Huskies. 

Emrik Mundschenk, SMB DB, junior: Mundschenk picked off two passes, including one that he returned for a touchdown, as SMB shut out Minneapolis South in Week 5. The junior DB also made seven tackles in the win. 

Jared Shearer, Burnsville DB, senior: Shearer recorded eight tackles (three for loss), 1.5 sacks and an interception as the Blaze beat Farmington 31-23 to move to 4-1 on the year. 

Zachary Wick, Prior Lake DL, junior (winner): Wick was a nuisance to Edina quarterback Brock Boltmann all night on Friday as he sacked the senior three times and made seven tackles in a 30-0 win. The Lakers moved to 3-1 in West Metro District South Division play with the win

Logan Smith, Winona DB, junior: Smith intercepted three passes to bump his season total to seven. Smith has intercepted a pass in every game this season as the Winhawks have jumped out to a 5-0 start. 

Reece Winkelman, Marshall LB, senior: Winkelman stuffed the stat sheet in a 64-0 win over Worthington, finishing with nine tackles (four for loss), a sack and an interception return for a touchdown. The Tigers have outscored their opponents by 228 points during their 5-0 start.  

Brogan Hayden, Robbindale Armstrong DB, senior: Hayden finished with seven solo tackles and two interceptions to help Robbinsdale Armstrong escape with a 18-14 win over Irondale. Hayden has 24 tackles and three interceptions on the year.
