Defensive Player of the Week: Week 2

Vote for your Week 2 Defensive Player of the Week.

Players are only included in the Player of the Week poll if their stats are entered on the Football Hub. If any coaches or members of their coaching staff would like to be set up to enter stats, please email john.kelsey@sportsengine.com. Stats must be entered by noon each Monday to be included in the POTW poll. 

Defensive Player of the Week Candidates:

Ben LaBrosse, South St. Paul DL, senior: LaBrosse finished with 3 sacks and a fumble recovery as the Packers escaped with a 29-26 win over district rival Park of Cottage Grove. 

Jackson Grussing, MACCRAY DB, senior: The MACCRAY defense intercepted five passes in a week 2 win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart and Grussing accounted for three of them. Grussing also recorded five tackles and a fumble recovery. 

Brady Madsen, MACCRAY DB, senior: Grussing's teammate Brady Madsen recorded the other two MACCRAY interceptions in the 26-12 win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart. Madsen added eight tackles and threw a touchdown pass on offense as the Wolverines moved to 2-0. 

Thomas Zinnah, Champlin Park LB, junior: Zinnah recorded seven tackles (six solo) and two sacks as the Champlin Park defense shut out a Centennial team that was ranked #7 in Class 6A entering the game. 

Nick Antony, Canby LB, senior: Antony led his team in tackles by a wide margin in week 2, finishing with 18 total in a 14-7 loss to Dawson-Boyd. The senior also intercepted a pass in the game. 

Marcus Haskins, East Ridge DB, senior: Haskins intercepted three passes to help East Ridge pull out a 24-14 win over Mounds View. He also made three tackles as the Raptors moved to 1-1 on the year. 

Bobby Striggow, Orono LB, junior: Orono has struggled early in the 2016 season but Striggow has been a bright spot on defense. Striggow finished with 14 tackles and two sacks in week 2 and leads the Spartans with 22 tackles through two games. 

Matt Schindler, Eden Valley-Watkins DB, junior: Schindler, who plays the role of swiss army knife for Eden Valley-Watkins, made most of his impact on the defensive side of the ball in week 2. The junior made seven tackles, intercepted a pair of passes, and broke up two passes. He also returned a kick for a touchdown, handled the punting duties, had two carries, and caught a pass. 

Ben Schnellman, Zimmerman DB, senior: Zimmerman's defense was dominant in a 42-7 win over Foley and Schnellman played a large role, intercepting three passes and returning one for a touchdown. 

Travis Brown, St. Michael-Albertville DB, senior (Winner): Brown intercepted two passes and returned one for a touchdown as the defending Class 5A champions rolled to a 42-10 win over Big Lake. Brown also made three tackles.
