And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive Top Performer revealed

Top performer winners

Deonte Bryant, Hopkins. The junior led the Royals defense with four sacks and 10 total tackles in a 21-7 win over Coon Rapids. 

Josh DeBoer, Dassel-Cokato. The junior made nine solo tackles — including three for a loss — and four sacks in the Chargers' 19-10 victory. DeBoer, whose four sacks bring his season total to nine and ties him for fourth-most in the state, and the defense held Zimmerman scoreless in the second half and allowed the Chargers to mount a come-from-behind win. 

Top performer candidates

Deonte Bryant, Hopkins. The junior led the Royals defense with four sacks and 10 total tackles in a 21-7 win over Coon Rapids.

Eric Groeneveld, Waconia. The junior linebacker made 10 tackles, contributed on a sack and returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown in the Wildcats' 20-8 win over Chanhassen.

Eli Hart, Rochester Mayo. Hart led the Spartans with 11 total tackles — including three for a loss — and 1.5 sacks in a 7-0 victory over Rochester John Marshall.

Vincent Lamberty, Champlin Park. The senior linebacker made 10 solo tackles (14 total) and forced a fumble that he recovered in the Rebels' 41-34 win over Totino-Grace.

Jaden Morton, Providence Academy. The senior linebacker led the Lions with 16 total tackles and scored a defensive touchdown — returning an interception 67 yards — in a 42-21 win over Fridley.

Cade Plath, Chanhassen. The senior linebacker averaged nearly 15 total tackles per game this season but surpassed that mark with 21 (and a sack) in the Storm's 20-8 loss to Waconia. Plath's 118 total tackles this season is the state's best.

Noah Renne, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. The sophomore made 17 total tackles (13 solo), including two for a loss, in the Falcons' 21-14 win over Sauk Centre.

Jack Schauer, Breck. The senior contributed on a sack and made a season-high 17 tackles, including two for a loss, to lead the Mustangs past St. Paul Humboldt 52-6.

Elijah Sterner, Lakeview. The senior linebacker led the Lakers with 17 tackles in a 45-27 victory over Sleepy Eye. Sterner's 117 total tackles this season rank second-most in the state.
