Top performer winner

Jeremiah Stewart, Minneapolis North. The senior led the Polars to a fourth shutout this season with nine tackles, including four for a loss, and 4.5 sacks in a 58-0 win over St. Paul Como Park.

Top performer candidates

Sam Fritz, Spring Lake Park. The senior defensive back sparked the Panthers defense against Park Center with eight solo tackles (12 total) and one sack in a 42-0 win.

Clay Herding, Mankato West. The senior linebacker led the Scarlets defense with two tackles for a loss and one sack in a 48-6 win over Faribault. He finished with 10 solo tackles and 18 total tackles — both season highs.

Alex McKenna, Breck. The junior stuffed the stat sheet in a 51-0 win over St. Paul Harding, with 11 total tackles (including three for a loss), two sacks, three forced fumbles and a blocked kick. McKenna ranks third in the state with nine sacks this season.

Kyle Hagen, Spring Grove. The junior set season highs in solo tackles (8), tackles for a loss (4) and sacks (4) in the Lions' 48-6 victory over Grand Meadow. Hagen made 12 total tackles.

Ryan Kuechle, Mankato East. The senior had a night to remember in a 38-35 loss to Austin. His 28 total tackles tied him for eighth-most in a single game in state history, per the Minnesota State High School League. Kuechle's impressive game bumps him up to third in the state in total tackles (96) this season.

Joe McNamara, Buffalo. The senior defensive back made 18 solo tackles in a 62-35 win over Chisago Lakes. That tied the record for the most solo tackles in a game — most recently matched by Hastings' Joe Stewart in 1999. McNamara also forced a fumble in the win.

Max Owen, Pine Island. The junior defensive back grabbed an interception and made 19 tackles (10 solo) in the Panthers' 27-14 victory over Kasson-Mantorville.

Cade Plath, Chanhassen. The senior linebacker led the Storm defense — which allowed Bloomington Kennedy just one first-quarter TD — by making 14 tackles and forcing a fumble in a 28-6 win. Plath's 97 tackles on the season rank second in the state.

Jeremiah Stewart, Minneapolis North. The senior led the Polars to a fourth shutout this season with nine tackles, including four for a loss, and 4.5 sacks in a 58-0 win over St. Paul Como Park.
