For identical twin brothers Eli and Will Mostaert, the toughest part of Lakeville North’s 38-3 victory over Prior Lake was deciding how much credit Eli got for returning an interception for a touchdown.

“I had one in, what, eighth grade?” Eli said.

“More like fourth grade,” Will chimed in.

“No, it was ninth grade,” Eli continued. “Against Apple Valley.”

Will agreed, but added a caveat. “Yeah, but I gave it to you. I was sacking him and he threw it up to you.”

That the Mostaert brothers were able to dicker over specifics speaks volumes about how convincing the Panthers victory was on Friday. The game, the second high school game played at TCO Stadium at the Vikings’ new training facility, was poised to showcase two of the state’s top Class 6A football programs.

It became a display of dominance for the state’s No. 1-ranked team.

Prior Lake (4-3) actually took a 3-0 lead, the end result of a misplayed punt that landed in the hands of a Laker defender. Mike Nelson kicked a 35-yard field goal three plays later and, for a brief moment, the game was afoot.
