If it’s possible to under-rate aspects of Eden Prairie’s football team, it’s the 11-time Prep Bowl champion’s willingness to go for it on fourth down and the ability to convert.
No. 3 Eden Prairie (6-1) scored two touchdowns on fourth down to key a 23-16 victory at Minnetonka, the Eagles’ Prep Bowl conquest last November.
Quarterback Cole Kramer threw for a clutch score and Felipe Izumi ran for another.
“We trust that coach [Mike] Grant knows what he’s doing,” Kramer said. “The play calls are unbelievable, and when we’re going for it we have to give it all we’ve got.”
Kramer hit a wide-open Matt Sherman for a 14-yard touchdown catch on fourth and 2 late in the first half. Izumi’s one-yard touchdown on fourth and goal made it 23-9 with less than two minutes left in the game.
