And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive Top Performer revealed

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Football Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

Elijah Sterner, Lakeview. The senior linebacker, who's averaging 14 tackles per game this season and is tied for second-most total tackles in the state (70), recorded 16 tackles, including three for a loss, during a 34-20 loss to Yellow Medicine East. 

Top performer candidates

Isaac Deal, Wheaton-Herman-Norcross. The senior linebacker had a season-high 16 tackles, including one for a loss, in a 20-7 loss to Hancock.

Anthony Gipson, Maple Grove. The junior linebacker stuffed the stat sheet with 12 tackles, one sack and a forced fumble in a 38-14 loss to Eden Prairie, which is No. 3 in The Associated Press' Class 6A rankings.

Clay Herding, Mankato West. In a 41-14 win over New Prague, the senior linebacker, who ranks second in the state with eight sacks this season, had seven tackles for a loss (11 total tackles).

Elliott Ische, Minnetonka. Ische and the Skippers defense allowed Lakeville South just one field goal in the Skippers' 16-3 victory, as the junior outside linebacker had 11 solo tackles, including one for a loss.

Alex McKenna, Breck. In a 19-13 victory over St. Anthony, the junior led the Mustangs with 10 total tackles, including four for a loss, and two sacks.

Jacob Muhich, Buffalo. The senior linebacker recorded 10 solo tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble as he and the Bison's defense held Monticello to just one touchdown in a 21-7 victory. 

Jerrell Smith-Shannon, Robbinsdale Cooper. The senior defensive back earned his second MN Football Hub defensive Top Performer nomination in three weeks after making 14 tackles, recovering a fumble and contributing on a sack during a 42-34 win over Robbinsdale Armstrong.

Quentrail Travis, Minneapolis North. The junior defensive end and the No. 2-2A Polars held Columbia Heights scoreless until the last five minutes of the game, as he made a season-high 13 tackles in the 38-6 win.

Jakob Zuidema, MACCRAY. The senior led the Wolverines with three tackles for a loss and had 18 total — the same amount he had in his previous two games combined — in a 34-0 loss to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.
