Top games: St. Thomas Academy aims to slow a surging Hastings team in crucial league matchup

We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.






Other games to keep an eye on

Dassel-Cokato vs. Delano, 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28. No. 8-4A Dassel-Cokato (4-0, 3-0) is off to a hot start, but will be tested against Delano (3-1, 2-0) team on an eight-game winning streak. The winner will remain the only undefeated squad in the East Central South subdistrict.

Breckenridge vs. Hawley, 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28. The Midwest White subdistrict has become a three-team race, and two go head-to-head when No. 6-2A Breckenridge (4-0, 3-0) meets Hawley (3-1, 2-0) — with the outcome helping sort out the league standings. The Cowboys and Nuggets have split their last six meetings.

Blaine vs. Champlin Park, 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28. Blaine (4-0, 2-0) has executed on the field all season and is one of just two remaining undefeated Class 6A teams, as well as the lone unbeaten squad in the Metro North subdistrict. No. 8-6A Champlin Park (3-1, 2-1) can unseat the No. 3-6A Bengals in the league standings with a win Friday.
