And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive Top Performer revealed

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Football Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. Coaches or members of their staffs needing access to enter stats should email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

John Whitmore, Benilde-St. Margaret's. The senior linebacker made a team-leading 13 tackles, including one for a safety, in a 23-9 loss to Waconia. 


Top performer candidates

Kolin Baier, Mankato East. The junior outside linebacker made a team-high 12 tackles in a 31-22 win over Northfield.

Jacob Beeninga, Wayzata. The senior defensive back grabbed two interceptions, made eight tackles and helped the Trojans hold Rosemount scoreless in the fourth quarter of a 21-12 win.

Sam Fritz, Spring Lake Park. The senior defensive back led the Panthers defense with 17 tackles — he's tied for third in the state after Week 1 — in a 35-13 win over Irondale.

Dawson Miller, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. The junior made a career-high 12 tackles, including two for a loss, in a 35-14 win over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.

Alex Otto, Monticello. The senior linebacker, who led the Magic with an average of 15.5 tackles per game last season, picked up right where he left off — recording 15 tackles and one sack in a 22-21 loss to Hutchinson.

Cad Plath, Chanhassen. The senior linebacker finished with 15 tackles in a 35-13 win over Robbinsdale Armstrong.

Abe Schwinn, Cretin-Derham Hall. In a 22-21 overtime victory over Totino-Grace, the senior linebacker led the Raiders with 11 total tackles, two of them for a loss. 

Aaron Sledge, St. Louis Park. The Orioles defense held Bloomington Kennedy to just one touchdown, and the senior made 10 tackles and one sack in the 34-7 win. 

Levi Spittle, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda. Despite his team's 28-14 loss to Westbrook-Walnut Grove, the senior linebacker made a state-high 23 tackles and forced a fumble in the Raiders' season opener.
