St. Francis built a big lead on third-seeded Duluth East before the power went out at the Greyhounds’ home field in the second half Tuesday. It did not stop the sixth-seeded Saints from pulling off a 45-21 upset in Class 5A, Section 7.

The Saints had a 31-15 lead and were driving when the stadium went dark. When the lights came back on, St. Francis finished the drive with a touchdown pass from Taylor Aho to Wyatt Schroeder.

Dru Dakis led the Saints with three rushing touchdowns. The Saints also got rushing touchdowns from T.J. Hoglund and Carl Carnes and a field goal from Hunter Dustman.

 

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 20, Concordia Academy 16: Brennan Barth scored three touchdowns to lead the seventh-seeded Lakers past the second-seeded host Beacons in the Class 2A, Section 4 quarterfinals. He had a 4-yard run in the second quarter and scored on runs of 10 and 25 yards in the third quarter.

Hastings 16, Henry Sibley 14: The Raiders stopped the Warriors on fourth down with 20 seconds left to advance in Class 5A, Section 3. The Warriors had the ball at the Raiders 3-yard line but chose to go for a touchdown instead of attempting a field goal.

Belle Plaine 21, Holy Family 14: Marcus Walsh ran for two touchdowns to lead the Tigers past the visiting Fire in the Class 3A, Section 2 quarterfinals. He scored in the first quarter on a 2-yard run and then gave the Tigers a 14-0 lead on a 99-yard run one play after the Fire failed to convert a fourth-and-goal at the 1.

Tartan 26, North St. Paul 9: Cyrus Kalkwarf led the Titans past the visiting Polars in Class 5A, Section 4. He finished with two rushing touchdowns and caught a two-point conversion.

Fridley 49, Minneapolis South 0: Nate Soto accounted for five touchdowns, including the first four for Fridley. He finished the game with 134 yards and three touchdowns receiving and 43 rushing yards and a touchdown as well as a punt return score. Noah Couwenhoven threw for 174 yards and three touchdowns, Ben Zayzay had 125 rushing yards and a touchdown and Micah Couwenhoven had two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, for Fridley.

Red Wing 20, Albert Lea 16: The Wingers stopped an 18-game losing streak to advance in Class 4A, Section 1. The Wingers scored with under seven minutes left in the game on a 23-yard touchdown pass.

Class 2A, Section 8: Bagley’s game at Crookston was suspended because of a power outage with about seven minutes left in the game. It will be resumed at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
