Class 6A

With three weeks left in the regular season, three teams remain unbeaten and atop the Associated Press Class 6A state football poll. All three reside in the Metro West subdistrict, meaning some major matchups are in the forecast.

On Friday, second-ranked Minnetonka hosts No. 3 Edina (5-0, 1-0) after both teams posted dominant victories in Week 5. The Skippers (5-0, 2-0) rolled Lakeville South 42-7, while the Hornets trounced Shakopee 31-14. Top-ranked Eden Prairie (5-0, 2-0) has continued to play in a league of its own after methodically defeating No. 8 Maple Grove (3-2, 0-2) in a 28-7 rout last week.

Defending Class 6A champion and fifth-ranked Totino-Grace (4-1, 2-1) shook up the rankings after dealing No. 7 St. Michael-Albertville (4-1, 3-1) its first loss of the season in a 12-7 decision. The Knights' loss paved way for Lakeville North (4-1, 3-0)  to claim the No. 4 spot after the Panthers won their fourth straight in a 24-7 finish at Wayzata.

Class 5A

Five teams in Class 5A remain undefeated with defending state champion Elk River leading the pack. The No. 1 Elks (5-0, 4-0) recorded a season high for points in a 49-17 demolition of St. Francis last Friday.

Second-ranked Owatonna (5-0, 2-0) posted its second shutout of the season while also putting up 48 points against Mankato East.

Chaska (5-0, 2-0) climbed three spots after defeating No. 7 Apple Valley (4-1, 2-0). The No. 3 Hawks scored a touchdown in the final minute to post a 20-17 victory.

Robbinsdale Cooper (5-0, 2-0) defeated crosstown rival Robbinsdale Armstrong 20-7 last week, helping the Hawks remain at No. 4.

Moorhead fell to Elk River in its season opener, but it has crawled its way into the top 5 after winning four straight. The No. 5 Spuds (4-1, 3-0) posted a season best in points in a 36-20 win over Willmar on Friday night.

Class 4A

Kasson-Mantorville and Zimmerman boast unbeaten records -- two of nine teams in the Class 4A rankings that haven't lost yet -- and both cracked the top 10 this week.

The No. 10 KoMets (5-0, 4-0) have averaged 40.4 points per game and are coming off their highest offensive output in a 55-13 rout of Stewartville.

Ninth-ranked Zimmerman (5-0, 4-0) defeated Little Falls 38-14 last Friday.

It was business as usual in Week 5 for top-ranked Winona (5-0, 2-0), as the Winhawks scored 25 points unanswered before Rochester Century found two TDs late in a 39-14 final. Second-ranked Marshall (5-0, 5-0) defeated No. 11 Waseca 34-13 in the Tigers' closest game to date, while Benilde-St. Margaret's (5-0, 3-0) trounced crosstown rival St. Louis Park 48-20 to hold its No. 3 position.

Holy Angels (5-0, 3-0) climbed to the No. 4 spot after rolling rival Richfield 56-13. The Stars' victory dropped Hutchinson (5-0, 4-0) one spot to No. 5 despite the Tigers' record remaining perfect following a 29-14 victory over St. Cloud Apollo.

The Class 4A top 10's only team with a loss is No. 7 South St. Paul (4-1, 3-0), which picked up a notable 27-13 win over No. 11-5A Mahtomedi last week.

Class 3A

St. Croix Lutheran's offensive consistency has gone unmatched this season, as it hasn't scored less than 40 points in a game this season. The Crusaders (5-0, 4-0) defeated Minneapolis Washburn 49-20 last Thursday to solidify their spot atop the Class 3A rankings.

Contrarily, second-ranked Rochester Lourdes (5-0, 4-0) found itself in a close game for a third time this season, but the Eagles edged Byron 21-20 to remain unbeaten. Third-ranked Pierz (5-0, 4-0) pummeled Eden Valley-Watkins 50-12, but dropped one spot in the rankings.

Annandale (5-0, 3-0), ranked fourth, rolled Watertown-Mayer 34-14 last week, while No. 5 Sibley East beat Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 29-8. Sixth-ranked Spectrum (5-0, 4-0) bulldozed St. Paul Harding 63-20 as the final undefeated team in its class.

Seventh-ranked Fairmont (4-1, 3-1) routed Albert Lea 48-6, while No. 8 Glencoe-Silver Lake (4-1, 2-1) stymied Holy Family 14-3.

Class 2A

Top-ranked Caledonia (5-0, 4-0) remains the pinnacle of Class 2A following a 42-13 rout of Chatfield. Barnesville and Minneapolis North tied for second in the poll as the Trojans (5-0, 3-0) sped past Roseau 54-6 while the Polars (5-0, 5-0) defeated Columbia Heights 52-21.

Hawley (5-0, 3-0), ranked fourth, enters a bye week (due to Frazee forfeiting the season) after a 44-26 victory over Breckenridge last week and will use the extra time to prepare for its Week 7 meeting with Barnesville.

Fifth-ranked Redwood Valley (5-0, 4-0) rallied itself in a 29-14 win against Pipestone, while Triton (4-1, 3-1) tallied a season high in points in its 63-20 win over Dover-Eyota.

Class 1A

Rushford-Peterson (5-0, 5-0) allowed just one touchdown in its first four games of the season, a dominant defensive performance that went by the wayside in Week 5. No matter, the Trojans rolled through Winona Cotter 42-28 to remain atop the Class 1A poll and one of nine unbeaten teams in the top 10.

Second-ranked Wabasso (5-0, 3-0) ran roughshod over Sleepy Eye 69-13, while No. 3 Braham (5-0, 3-0) bested Deer River 43-14. Fourth-ranked Goodhue (5-0, 4-0) posted a 35-13 victory over No. 12 Blooming Prairie (5-1, 5-1).

Minneota (5-0, 4-0) tallied a season high in points as the No. 5 Vikings rolled Ortonville 59-20. Sixth-ranked BOLD (5-0, 4-0) had its best performance of the season in a 68-0 shutout of Benson, while No. 7 Ottertail Central (5-0, 4-0) climbed into the top 10 after shutting out Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 43-0.

9-Man

After weeks of shuffling, the top 5 in the 9-Man rankings have finaly stabilized.

Top-ranked Spring Grove (5-0, 4-0) routed Lanesboro 60-14 last week, a performance the Lions hope to build on as they prepare to face fellow South East subdistrict leader Houston (5-0, 4-0). The No. 3 Hurricanes demolished Randolph 56-8 last week.

Second-ranked Cromwell-Wright (5-0, 3-0) amassed 51 first-half points in a 53-0 shutout of Carlton, while No. 4 Stephen-Argyle (5-0, 5-0) beat Goodridge-Grygla-Gatzke 34-14.

Nevis (5-0, 5-0) remained at No. 5 after brushing aside Clearbrook-Gonvick 40-14.
