Defensive Player of the Week revealed

Find out who was voted the top performer for Week 5.

Player of the Week winner

Emrik Mundschenk, SMB. The senior linebacker led SMB’s defensive effort with 16 tackles and a forced fumble in a 42-19 win over St. Paul Highland Park.

Player of the Week candidates

Josh Bounds, Verndale. The senior linebacker made a game-high 19 tackles in a 52-20 win over Rothsay.

Matt Clark, South Ridge. Clark, a sophomore linebacker, led South Ridge's defense with a season-high 14 tackles in a 20-12 win over Silver Bay.

Steve Hajas, Delano. The senior, who ranks third in the state with 72 total tackles, led Delano's defense with 22 tackles in a 41-36 win over Dassel-Cokato.

Austin Kosen, Lakeview. Despite Lakeview’s 15-8 loss to Yellow Medicine East, the senior linebacker was a force on defense, as he made 15 tackles and added a sack.

Nate Mertes, Minneapolis Southwest. The sophomore made 14 tackles and nabbed an interception in a 36-7 win over Academy Force.

Dominic Phillips, Holy Family. Though Holy Family only put up one field goal on offense, the junior linebacker helped hold Glencoe-Silver Lake to just two scores. Phillips made 17 tackles in the 14-3 loss.

Jaiden Russell, Buffalo. The senior linebacker made nine tackles, had one sack and forced two fumbles in a 48-26 win over Monticello.

James Strese, Brandon-Evansville. Strese and the Chargers held Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley scoreless, as the senior defensive lineman made 12 tackles and two sacks in the 44-0 win.

Jacob Theis, Chaska. In a 20-17 win over Apple Valley, the junior linebacker made 13 tackles, recorded a sack and forced a fumble.
