Waubun coach Paul Clark knows there is one thing a team shouldn’t do in the playoffs.

“You can’t give a good team a short field,” Clark said. 

Three-time defending state champion Grand Meadow forced four turnovers — scoring quick touchdowns after two of them — and went on to defeat Waubun 35-0 in the Nine-Man semifinals.

 “This game was closer than the final score showed,” Grand Meadow coach Gary Sloan said. “They are a very good team. So quick, deceptive. You have to play good defense against them.”

It took awhile for the Superlarks, who earned their 49th consecutive victory, to take control. Late in the half, it appeared the Superlarks would take a 7-0 lead into halftime.

But moments after recovering a Waubun fumble at the Waubun 25, Christophor Bain scored the first of his three touchdowns to help the Superlarks take a 14-0 lead at the intermission.

Bain’s second touchdown — a 62-yard run — came two plays after an interception gave the Superlarks the ball. The Superlarks scored twice in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter — the second after getting the ball at the Waubun 24 after a sack — to extend their lead to 35-0.

Bain finished with 173 yards in 23 carries and Jacob Oehlke caught a touchdown pass and had two interceptions for the Superlarks.

The victory in the Nine-Man semifinal Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium was the 49th consecutive for the Superlarks, who are going for their fourth consecutive state title.

Oehlke’s 55-yard TD reception and Bain’s  7-yard run helped the Superlarks (12-0) build a 14-0 halftime lead.

Bain scored on a 62-yard run in the third quarter and a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter.

The Superlarks  forced four turnovers – two fumbles and two interceptions.
