Top performer winner

Eric Jurek, Stillwater. The Ponies held their opponent to just seven points for the third time this season as they defeated Mounds View 35-7 on Oct. 14. Jurek recorded two sacks and 11 total tackles — a season high for the senior.

Top performer candidates

Tyler Burton, Chanhassen. The junior linebacker led the Storm’s defense in a back-and-forth game against Holy Angels. Burton made a season-high 12 total tackles as the Storm edged the Stars 21-20.

Alex Carr, Park of Cottage Grove. The senior linebacker is averaging 13 tackles per game this season, racking up 91 tackles through seven games. He surpassed that season average in the Wolfpack’s 29-28 victory against Anoka, making 10 solo tackles and 16 total tackles, including one for a loss.

Isaac Cin, Lakeville South. The Cougars handed Shakopee their second loss of the season while holding the Sabers to their lowest offensive output. Cin led the Cougars with 10 total tackles and a sack in the 28-10 win.

Sean Drotts, Deer River. The sophomore linebacker added to the Warriors’ scoreboard with a defensive touchdown on Oct. 14 — the first of three Warrior interceptions returned for touchdowns on the night. With his team already ahead by 14 points midway through the first quarter, Drotts grabbed an interception and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown. He added three tackles and a sack as the Warriors defeated Mille Lacs 52-6.

Alex Elliott, Hutchinson. After Delano got out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Hutchinson took over and scored six consecutive touchdowns — including one from Elliott on defense — to earn a 40-7 win. The senior recorded two interceptions in the game, one of which he returned 46 yards for a touchdown. He also led the Tigers with nine total tackles and forced a fumble.

Dylan Hudgens, Minnetonka. It was a battle of defenses on Oct. 14 as Centennial edged the Skippers 8-7. The Skippers were led by Hudgens’ season-high 15 tackles, including one for a loss.

Eric Jurek, Stillwater. The Ponies held their opponent to just seven points for the third time this season as they defeated Mounds View 35-7 on Oct. 14. Jurek recorded two sacks and 11 total tackles — a season high for the senior.

Reese Littlefield, Centennial. The Cougars were able to fend off a high-powered Minnetonka offense led by a quarterback with over 1,000 passing yards on the season. Littlefield, who is ranked second in the state with 93 tackles through seven games, led the Cougars defense with 16 tackles and one sack. Centennial defeated Minnetonka 8-7.

Joey Stolpestad, SMB. The senior linebacker is averaging over 12 tackles per game this season but had nearly double that amount in the Wolfpack’s Oct. 14 matchup against Bloomington Kennedy. Stolpestad made 22 total tackles and recovered a fumble. The Wolfpack held the Eagles off the board throughout regulation but lost in overtime 7-0.

Keenan Wilson, Eagan. The Wildcats kept Burnsville out of the end zone and held them to just a field goal in last week’s contest as the Wildcats won 13-3. Wilson played a key role on defense, recording one sack, five tackles for a loss and seven total tackles in the win.
