Top performer candidates

Connor Fournier, Maple Grove. The Crimson have a solid lineup on both sides of the ball, boasting a 7-0 record while averaging over 36 points per game and allowing just 14 points per game. The Crimson’s senior kicker has been reliable all season, not missing a single extra point. Fournier alone added 12 points to the scoreboard for the Crimson in their 30-0 win at St. Michael-Albertville, going 3-for-3 in PATs and kicking three field goals, all from between 23 and 32 yards out.

Wyatt McCabe, Watertown-Mayer. The Holy Family Catholic defense was no match for the Royals’ senior running back, who took 18 carries for 175 yards in the Royals’ 49-12 rout of the Fire. McCabe opened the Royals’ scoring 44 seconds into the game on a 1-yard rush and added four more touchdowns throughout the first half. McCabe averaged nearly 10 yards per carry and scored five of the Royals’ first six TDs.

Max McEnelly, Waconia. The running back has been a big factor in the Wildcats’ success this season, finding himself in the top four in rushing in the state with 1,409 yards through seven games. McEnelly ran for 272 of those yards in the Wildcats’ 55-7 win against St. Louis Park. The senior started the scoring with a 38-yard TD run midway through the first quarter and added two more TD runs in the half, helping the Wildcats gain a 28-7 lead at halftime. He added his final rushing score early in the third quarter.

Jacob Mattick, Coon Rapids. The Cardinals doubled their previous season high offensive output when they defeated Cambridge-Isanti 56-20 on Oct. 14. The Cardinals were led by their junior quarterback who had a season-best 81.5% pass completion rate, completing 22 of 27 passes. He tossed for 290 yards and four TDs, and added a score with his feet.

Landen Mickelson, St. Agnes. The Aggies are on a six-game winning streak after losing their season opener, their most recent victory being a 24-13 win against Concordia Academy. The junior quarterback was responsible for all four Aggie touchdowns, rushing for 34 yards and three short touchdowns and adding a fourth touchdown on a 3-yard pass. Mickelson completed 13 passes for 199 yards.

Ralph Naimah, Irondale. The senior running back played a key role in the Knights’ victory against Robbinsdale Cooper on Oct. 14. The Knights earned the victory in come-from-behind fashion, led by Naimah. He opened the scoring 17 seconds into the game with a 61-yard touchdown run. Then, when the Knights trailed by 14 points with less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Naimah recorded his second touchdown on a 12-yard rush to bring the Knights within seven points. After a Knights TD sent the game to overtime, Naimah scored his third touchdown on a 10-yard run to seal the win. He totaled 144 rushing yards on 16 carries in the 33-27 win.

Cade Osterman, Elk River. The Elks rolled to their seventh straight win to remain undefeated on the season, winning 58-29 against Alexandria. The Elks have scored at least 52 points in four of their seven games this season. Osterman had his most productive game of the season against Alexandria, taking 12 carries for 265 rushing yards, averaging over 22 yards per carry. He recorded four rushing TDs, including a 56-yard score in the first quarter and a 78-yard carry in the fourth quarter. He also threw a 20-yard passing touchdown in the win.

Sawyer Seidl, Hill-Murray. The senior running back had his best game of the season against South St. Paul on Oct. 14, scoring three of the Pioneers’ four TDs en route to a 28-12 victory. Seidl recorded the longest play of the game, a 99-yard TD run in the first quarter. Seidl finished with 255 yards on the ground, averaging over 10 yards per carry.

Tanner Zolnosky, East Ridge. The junior quarterback has continued to be a consistent presence for the Raptors this season, recording at least 200 passing yards in each game.
