It was hard to blame Chanhassen's Cullen Nelson to be looking a little worn out following his team’s win on Thursday against the Academy of Holy Angels.

For the third consecutive week, the Storm’s game has come down right to the end. So far, Chanhassen is two-for-three during this stretch. That includes Thursday’s 21-20 win over the Stars at Chanhassen High School.

First Report

A late penalty after a potentially game-tying touchdown proved to be quite costly for the Academy of Holy Angels as the Stars’ potential game-winning two-point conversion fell short as Chanhassen held on to a 21-20 win on Thursday.

The Stars (5-2, 3-0) got things going first and kept things close all game with the rushing attack of Aaron Boarman and Joe Miller IV. The duo combined for more than 180 yards on the ground. Miller ran two touchdowns during the first half while Boarman threw the lone passing touchdown of the day late in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, Chanhassen (6-1, 2-0) had a ground attack of its own in the duo of Maxwell Woods and Jayden Talamantes. The Storm duo scampered for more than 160 yards on the ground while Woods scored twice and Talamantes also scored a rushing touchdown.

As for the passing game, Storm quarterback Grant Muffenbier threw for 88 yards.

With 57 seconds, Miller’s lone touchdown pass came on a completion to Jacob Pung. However, Pung was called for excessive celebration following his touchdown catch for spiking the ball.

The 15-yard foul meant the extra-point try was moved back to the 17-yard line. Miller’s pass was knocked down in the end zone to give Chanhassen, ranked No. 7 in Class 5A by the Associated Press, the victory.
