Top performer winner

Nicholas Rollinger, Mahtomedi. The Zephyrs defeated Spring Lake Park on Sept. 30 to remain undefeated this season, securing a 35-21 road victory. Rollinger had a season-high eight solo tackles and 10 total tackles, including one for a loss. He also grabbed an interception, his first of the season, in the win.

Top performer candidates

Will Anderson, Minneapolis Washburn. The senior recorded double digit tackle totals for the second straight game in the Millers’ matchup against Richfield on Sept. 30. Anderson made 14 total tackles, including two for a loss. He also put points on the board, snagging an interception and returning it 59 yards for a TD. The Millers lost 47-36.

Jackson Brutger, St. Michael-Albertville. The Knights held Minnetonka to one touchdown and a field goal on Sept. 30, all in the first half. The Knights shut down the Skippers after halftime and notched a come-from-behind win, led by Brutger. The junior linebacker had a solid showing for a strong Knights defense, totaling eight tackles and two sacks. He also recovered a fumble, returning it 30 yards for a TD to kickstart the Knights’ comeback 10 seconds into the second half. St. Michael-Albertville defeated Minnetonka 24-10.

Max Gostonczik, Zimmerman. The senior linebacker, who is averaging over 10 tackles per game, led the Thunder’s 21-0 victory over Glencoe-Silver Lake, shutting down a Panthers offense that scored 38 points the week prior. Gostonczik’s 19 total tackles led the way for the Thunder on defense.

Saveon Harvey, Columbia Heights. The Hylanders made one mistake that led to a Minneapolis Edison kickoff return touchdown on Sept. 30, but those were the only points they’d allow. The Hylanders were led by Harvey, who recorded 10 total tackles for the second straight game, as they won 34-6.

Brady McPherson, Orono. One long touchdown pass got past the Spartans defense on Sept. 30, but that was all McPherson and the Orono defense would allow against St. Louis Park. The junior led the Spartans with eight total tackles, including one for a loss. He also recorded one sack and recovered a fumble as the Spartans won 52-6.

Camron Peterson, Mound Westonka. The White Hawks handed Fridley their second loss of the season on Sept. 30, winning the contest 28-14. The senior linebacker had a solid game on defense, forcing a fumble and tallying three sacks and four total tackles, including one for a loss.

Joey Stolpestad, SMB. The linebacker has been a consistently reliable presence for the Wolfpack defense, often leading the team in tackles. He did so again against Park Center on Sept. 30. The senior made 12 total tackles and a season-high eight solo tackles. Stolpestad also forced a fumble in the Wolfpack’s 24-14 victory.

Ashton Toll, Springfield. In addition to scoring an offensive TD , Toll led the Tiger defense in their 40-14 win against St. James. The junior is averaging over 13 total tackles per game with 68 total tackles on the season, good for second most in the state. He made 15 of those tackles — eight solo — including two for a loss in the win.

Kaden Vig, Kittson County Central. The Bearcats held their opponent to less than 10 points for the fifth consecutive game this season, backing a 43-6 victory with his solid defense. Vig made 13 total tackles, including five for a loss, and 2.5 sacks to lead the Bearcats defense.
