And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive top performer revealed

See who fans voted as the top performer from Sept. 13-17.

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Football Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

Kerome Thompson, Fridley. The senior linebacker led a strong Fridley defense that gave up just two touchdowns to St. Anthony on Sept. 16. Thompson recovered a fumble and made 13 total tackles to lead the Tigers.

Top performer candidates

Tanner Albeck, Maple Grove. In addition to getting into the offense with a touchdown, the senior linebacker scored once on defense. Albeck recovered a fumble which he returned 17 yards for a touchdown. He also made 10 total tackles, including one for a loss, as the Crimson defeated Minnetonka 41-27.

Alex Carr, Park of Cottage Grove. The senior linebacker is second in the state with 47 tackles through three games this season, nearly half of which he had during the Wolfpack’s 43-36 win against Eastview. Carr recorded seven solo tackles and 23 total tackles in the win.

Tyler Gunderson, Mahtomedi. The junior linebacker led the Zephyrs defense in their 46-21 victory against Hill-Murray on Sept. 17. Gunderson made seven solo tackles and 10 total tackles, including one for a loss, and one sack.

Alex Hollie, Minneapolis Washburn. The Millers held back Bloomington Kennedy just enough on Sept. 16, earning a 23-20 win. The defense was led by senior Hollie, who recorded 15 total tackles, including one for a loss.

Cody Klatt, Becker. The sophomore was one of three Bulldogs who recorded more than 10 tackles on Sept. 16. He led the defense with 17, including two for a loss, as the Bulldogs held off Chisago Lakes 14-13. 

Isaac Maurer, Cambridge-Isanti. The Bluejackets held St. Cloud Tech off the board on Sept. 16, rolling to a 31-0 victory. They were led by the senior linebacker, who made six solo tackles and 10 total tackles to pace the Bluejackets defense.

Jack Potratz, Chanhassen. The Storm handed Spring Lake Park their first loss of the season on Sept. 16. The senior linebacker made 15 total tackles and a sack to lead the Storm defense in the 28-14 victory.

Jacob Schroeder, East Ridge. The Raptors offense was buzzing on Sept. 15 and even though they had jumped out to a 35-0 lead by half, they still got a little boost from the defense. The senior linebacker snagged two interceptions, one which he returned 15 yards for a touchdown. Schroeder also made four tackles.

Cody Wichmann, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. The Knights started the scoring in their Sept. 16 contest against Canby in an unusual fashion — first recording a safety followed by a fumble return for a touchdown. Wichmann recovered the fumble and ran it in 15 yards for the early score. He also made a game-high 15 tackles, including three for a loss, as the Knights lost 18-15.
