And the winner is...MN Football Hub offensive top performer revealed

Top performer winners

Newmann Thomas, Minneapolis Henry. Thomas is having an impressive senior campaign, tied for first in the state with nine rushing touchdowns and seventh in the state with 574 rushing yards on the season. Four of those touchdowns and 313 of those yards came in the Patriots’ 35-28 victory against Brooklyn Center/Parnassus Prep. Thomas scored once in each quarter, and capped his performance with an 80-yard TD run. 

Tanner Zolnosky, East Ridge. The junior quarterback was efficient and effective in the Raptors’ 54-6 rout of Hopkins. He had a 73.3% pass completion rate on 15 passes. Five of his 11 completed passes were touchdown tosses. After a short pass for a game-opening TD, he threw three more TDs in the second quarter. A fifth TD pass came in the third quarter. 

Top performer candidates

George Bjellos, Woodbury. The junior quarterback has led the Royals to a 3-0 record to start the season, with the most recent win a 23-14 victory at Eagan on Sept. 15. Bjellos completed an 83-yard touchdown pass to get the Royals on the board and added an 11-yard TD pass later in the game. His third and final touchdown was a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter. Bjellos completed 16 of 21 passes for 267 yards and added 18 yards on the ground.

Derrik Brown, Jr., Park of Cottage Grove. After two losses to start the season, the Wolfpack got a big win at Eastview on Sept. 15, putting 43 points on the board. The senior running back recorded four TDs, all over 50 yards. Brown got the Wolfpack on the board in the first quarter with a 75-yard touchdown run. In the fourth quarter, the Lightning and Wolfpack traded off touchdowns, all three of the Wolfpack's courtesy of Brown. He recorded a 51-yard run and 76-yard reception, before scoring on a 79-yard catch and run to put the Wolfpack ahead for good and seal the 43-36 victory. 

Conner Connell, Luverne. The junior scored in any fashion he could on Sept. 15, leading the Cardinals to a 36-0 victory against Windom. The first of Connell’s four scores was a passing touchdown on a 3-yard completion. Connell scored twice on the ground, his first an 18-yard run and his second a 48-yard rushing score. Connell also scored once on a reception, catching a 29-yard pass. He totaled 187 all-purpose yards.

D’Mario Davenport, Andover. The junior running back and special teams returner scored in a variety of ways on Friday, notching a TD each as a punt returner, running back and kick returner. Davenport's 63-yard punt return for a TD began the scoring spree. He scored on one of his five rushing opportunities, a 16-yard TD in the second quarter. Davenport scored his final touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, a 93-yard kickoff return, as the Huskies’ final score of the game. They defeated Rogers 46-21.

Lex Korti, Fridley. The junior wide receiver scored three times in the Tigers’ 32-14 victory against St. Anthony, twice on rushes and a third time on a kick return. Korti averaged nearly 10 yards per carry, taking the ball 19 times for 187 rushing yards. His kick return touchdown was a 71-yard take back.

Lukas Kuehl, Litchfield. The junior scored all of the Dragons’ touchdowns, leading the offense in a final-minute victory. Kuehl recorded a 56-yard TD run early in the first quarter and added two more short TD runs in the second. With the game tied in the final minute of play, Kuehl converted on a 1-yard run to give the Dragons the lead with 36 seconds left. He totaled four rushing scores to go along with 262 rushing yards in the 27-20 win. 

Owen Lebans-Englund, Minneapolis Washburn. The senior kicker played an integral part in the Millers' Sept. 16 win, converting on all opportunities he had to help the Millers edge Bloomington Kennedy 23-20. He kicked a 37-yard field goal early in the second quarter and kicked two extra points.

Keegan Patterson, Sauk Rapids-Rice. The senior quarterback eclipsed the 300-yard mark in the Storm’s 31-17 victory against Alexandria. Patterson went 16 of 22 for 299 yards and two TDs. Patterson, with an added pair of rushing scores, finished with 305 all-purpose yards and four TDs.
