Kilzer’s 4-yard run in the first quarter opened the scoring, and after two Minnetonka touchdowns, including one on 65-yard fumble return, his 7-yard pass to Tanner Albeck helped Maple Grove take a 14-13 lead into halftime.
The Crimson, powered by Kilzer and Albeck, took control of the game in the third quarter. Kilzer rushed for two more TDs — one from 25 yards out and the other from the 1-yard line — while Albeck returned a fumble 17 yards for a touchdown, pushing Maple Grove’s advantage to 35-13.
Minnetonka mounted a rally in the fourth quarter behind senior running back Jacob McCalla, who caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Milos Spasojevic and scored again on a 5-yard run to help the Skippers trim the deficit to 35-27.
Kilzer, however, sealed the victory with a 1-yard touchdown run. He finished the game with 131 rushing yards on 20 carries and completed nine of 14 passing attempts for 82 yards. Senior running back Jordan Olagbaju amassed 112 rushing yards for the Crimson (3-0), who are No. 4 in the Star Tribune Metro Top 10 rankings released Sept. 13.
Spasojevic went 22-for-28 passing for 233 yards and one interception. Sophomore receiver Duke Richardson caught eight passes for 103 yards to lead the No. 5 Skippers (2-1).
