Fridley defeats SMB in walk-off fashion

The SMB Wolfpack students made a mad dash like they were clocking a 40 time. 

The section moved from its sideline perch to behind the end zone to give Fridley a friendly earful and support the home team in overtime. 

Fridley freshman kicker Luis Zentella stared down the roaring faithful and delivered a game-winning kick. His extra point squeaked past the uprights, sending the Tigers into a frenzy after a 15-14 walk-off win.

Fridley defeated SMB 15-14 in walk-off fashion.

An extra-point kick by freshman Luis Zentella gave the Tigers an overtime road victory.

The game-winner was set up by an 8-yard touchdown pass by M.J. Newton to Isaiah Watson on fourth-and-goal.

The Wolfpack had the ball first in overtime. Landon Dillon’s 9-yard touchdown rush gave SMB its only lead of the game. His two-point conversion rush was inches shy of the goal line.

Defense provided the only points of the first half. A tipped pass near the line of scrimmage fell into the arms of Kerome Thompson for a 60-yard touchdown return. Watson rushed in for the conversion on a fake kick.

SMB tied the game past the midway point of the fourth quarter on a 38-yard touchdown pass from Merrick Woods to Kobey Sandifer and a two-point conversion rush by Dillon.

Fridley intercepted three passes, two by Watson, and recovered two fumbles.

Newton rushed 32 times for 66 yards.

Dillon rushed 12 times for 80 yards.
