Dassel-Cokato and Litchfield are high schools separated by only 16 miles on Highway 12 and the rivals usually play an entertaining football game.
Friday’s game in Litchfield was no exception as Eli Gillman rushed for two touchdowns to help Dassel-Cokato, ranked No. 4 in Class 3A, pull away in the fourth quarter for a 20-6 victory over Litchfield, which is tied for No. 10 in the 3A state poll.
Dassel-Cokato led 7-0 going into the fourth quarter on Gillman’s 3-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter.
The Chargers (7-0) extended their lead to 14-0 on Gregory Clark’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Devan Nguyen and the PAT with eight minutes remaining.
Litchfield immediately responded with a 76-yard touchdown pass from Beau Weseloh by Ryan Schutz to pull within 14-6 with 7:48 remaining, but the PAT was blocked by Monte Gillman.
Eli Gillman, who has committed to play for Montana, scored on a 21-yard run with 2:52 remaining to extend the Chargers’ lead to 20-6.
The Chargers stopped the Dragons (5-2) on downs on their ensuing possession.
The Dragons defeated the Chargers15-13 last year and 29-28 in 2019.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s 24, Orono 22: Elliot Huether’s kicked a 30-yard field goal with 38 seconds remaining to lift the visiting Red Knights over the Spartans. 
The Spartans had taken a 22-21 lead with 4:43 remaining on a 2-yard run by Aidan Mueller and a two-point conversion pass from Victor Ruhland to Hunter Fox. The touchdown was the third of the game for Mueller.
Eden Prairie 35, Edina 0: Takhi Vaughn scored on runs of 67 yards and 93 yards as the Eagles, ranked No. 2 in the Metro Top 10, earned their second consecutive shutout victory.
Elk River 57, Alexandria 56: Logan Bunker’s touchdown run and the PAT with one second remaining rallied the host Elks, tied for No. 10 in Class 5A, to the victory. Alexandria had taken a 56-50 lead with two minutes remaining.
Mahtomedi 49, Simley 21: Jordan Hull rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns and Nicholas Beiersdorf rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Zephyrs past the visiting Spartans.
Maple Grove 38, St. Michael-Albertville 17: Derrick Jameson rushed for four touchdowns — three in the fourth quarter — as the host Crimson, ranked No. 5 in the Metro Top 10, pulled away from a 17-17 tie. Jameson scored on runs of 2, 44 and 25 yards and ran for a two-point conversion in the final period for the Crimson (6-1).
Providence Academy 56, St. Croix Lutheran 21: Stormy Knight rushed for five touchdowns to lead the Lions (7-0), ranked No. 5 in Class 3A, past the host Crusaders.
St. Louis Park 29, Waconia 28: The host Orioles scored 16 points in the final minute to rally for the victory.
Spring Lake Park 55, Tartan 7: Brayden Talso threw four touchdown passes and Nate Litke rushed for two touchdowns as the visiting Panthers, tied for No. 10 in Class 5A, improved to 5-2 with the victory.
Wayzata 38, Blaine 10: Ryan Harvey ran for two touchdowns and Alex Hart returned an interception 51 yards for a touchdown as the host Trojans, ranked No. 9 in Class 6A, defeated the Bengals. Toby Huber returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown for Blaine.
