In Class 4A, No. 2 Becker knocked off No. 1 Hutchinson

The Becker defense came up with several big plays as the Bulldogs, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, defeated Hutchinson, ranked No. 1 in 4A, 21-12 on Friday at Becker.

The victory was the 375th for Becker coach Dwight Lundeen, who is in his 52nd season as the Bulldogs coach. He has a career record of 375-163-3.

The Bulldogs led 21-0 at halftime, but the Tigers scored with two minutes remaining in the third quarter and early in the fourth quarter to pull within 21-12. After the second touchdown, the Bulldogs defense stopped a two-point conversion attempt by the Tigers.

The Bulldogs defense stopped the Tigers on fourth down with three minutes remaining.

The Tigers got the ball back but a Bulldog interception with 1 minute, 27 seconds remaining clinched the victory. 

The Bulldogs scored twice in an eight-second span midway through the second quarter to open the 21-0 lead. An interception set up a touchdown, which gave the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead with 5:58 remaining in the first half.

On the ensuing kickoff, Becker recovered a fumble at the Tigers’ 21-yard line. On their first play, the Bulldogs scored on a 21-yard TD pass. The PAT made it 21-0.
Chaska 7, Waconia 0: Colin Dussault caught a 21-yard TD pass from Brayden Sanders with 21 seconds remaining to lift the Hawks, ranked No. 7 in Class 5A, past the host Wildcats.

Andover 49, St. Francis 21: Connor Develice threw three TD passes and ran for two TDs in the first half to spark the Huskies, ranked No. 2 in Class 5A, past the visiting Saints.

Lakeville South 36, Farmington 14: Camden Dean ran for three touchdowns as the Cougars, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A, built a 36-0 lead en route to the victory over the visiting Tigers. The Cougars led 22-0 at halftime behind two touchdowns from Dean and a touchdown from Carson Hansen. 

Eden Prairie 13, Rosemount 3: The Eagles, ranked No. 6 in Class 6A, rebounded from last week’s 42-7 loss to Lakeville South with a strong defensive effort against the visiting Irish.

Park of Cottage Grove 45, Hopkins 7: Senior Evan Bearth threw three touchdown passes and ran for two TDs to lead the Wolfpack past the host Royals. After Hopkins took a 7-0 lead after a 95-yard touchdown run by Isiah Hams, the Wolfpack scored 39 consecutive points to take a 39-7 halftime lead.

St. Michael-Albertville 28, Blaine 0: Connor Luongvan ran for two touchdowns and Owen Neros threw two touchdown passes to lead the Knights, ranked No. 7 in Class 6A, past the visiting Bengals. Neros connected with Riley Purcell and Sawyer Forsberg in the second quarter as the Knights built a 21-0 lead at halftime.

Rockford 20, Pierz 12: Rockford scored 20 consecutive points and then held on to hand the host Pioneers, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, its first regular-season loss and first loss at home since Sept. 9, 2016. The loss ended a 39-game regular-season winning streak for the Pioneers. The Pioneers scored on their first possession of the game, but the Rockets responded to take a 20-6 lead. After Pierz pulled within 20-12 in the fourth quarter, the Rockets clinched the victory with an interception.
