And the winner is...MN Football Hub offensive top performer revealed

Top performer winner

Jaden Deacon, Murray County Central. The junior filled up the score sheet in the Rebels’ dominating victory over MACCRAY on Sept. 2. Deacon took 29 carries for 274 yards, averaging 9.4 yards per carry and recording five touchdowns — four in the first half alone — and a two-point conversion run. The Rebels won 40-0.

Top performer candidates

Jack Boyle, Chaska. The senior running back was tasked with providing the majority of the Hawks’ run game against Bloomington Jefferson on Sept. 2, taking 23 of the team’s 36 carries for 251 yards. Boyle averaged 10.9 yards per carry, scoring four touchdowns — including two for more than 30 yards each — to lead the Hawks’ 33-12 victory. 

Cade Bruett, Delano. The Tigers brought just enough offense to edge Chisago Lakes in a 27-26 win on Aug. 27. The Tigers’ junior quarterback completed 12 passes for 251 yards, throwing for two touchdowns, including a 79-yard completion late in the second quarter. Bruett added 23 yards on the ground and recorded one rushing touchdown.

Tate Gilbertson, Winona Cotter. Gilbertson and the Ramblers scored 34 consecutive first half points en route to a 34-16 victory against Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Sept. 3. The senior quarterback completed 17 passes for 171 yards, throwing for three touchdowns. Gilbertson added 31 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, eclipsing the 200-yard mark in the victory.

Carson Hansen, Lakeville South. The junior running back led the Cougars’ 50-14 defeat of Park of Cottage Grove on Sept. 2 with 309 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in each quarter. Hansen recorded the majority of his yards on the ground, with 213 rushing yards on 14 carries for three touchdowns. Hansen added another touchdown on a 40-yard reception with less than one minute remaining in the second quarter. Hansen took two of the Cougars’ three kick returns, adding 56 yards on his attempts.

Ayden Horner, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton. Horner accounted for four of the Panthers’ six touchdowns as they defeated Lac qui Parle Valley 38-13 on Sept. 3. The senior took 12 carries for 202 yards, recording four touchdowns on his 16.8 average yards per carry. Horner added 33 yards on three receptions, completing a 28-yard receiving touchdown.

Derrick Jameson, Maple Grove. The senior running back was elusive to Osseo's defense on Sept. 2, recording four touchdowns in the Crimson’s 49-7 rout of Osseo. Jameson recorded two rushing touchdowns, each for over 30 yards, in the first quarter to give the Crimson a 14-0 lead. In the second quarter, Jameson returned an Osseo punt 65 yards for his third score of the game, followed by his final rushing touchdown with less than two minutes left in the second quarter. Jameson accumulated 216 total yards, including 125 rushing yards, 11 yards on one reception, and 80 yards on punt returns.

Carter Thielke, Fergus Falls. The Otters posted a 29-15 victory on Sept. 3, defeating Detroit Lakes for a season-opening win. The senior quarterback completed 10 of 18 passes, tallying 223 passing yards and two touchdowns. Thielke added two more touchdowns on the ground on 16 rushing yards.

Jacob Weckop, Randolph. The Rockets earned a dominating win against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Sept. 3 behind Weckop’s 372 total yards. The senior quarterback went 12-for-17, throwing for 331 yards and five touchdowns, including two for more than 70 yards each. Weckop added his final touchdown on the ground, tallying a total of 41 rushing yards in the 44-0 victory.

Connor Weed, Farmington. The Tigers jumped out to a 28-0 lead by halftime on Sept. 2 against Burnsville, adding a final touchdown in the fourth quarter to earn a 35-12 win. Weed recorded two touchdowns in the first half — one passing and one rushing — before completing a 78-yard run for his final touchdown of the game mid-way through the fourth quarter. Weed finished the game with 167 passing yards on 11 throws and added 107 yards on eight carries.
