CLASS 3A

Fairmont (12-1) vs. St. Croix Lutheran (13-0)

St. Croix offense gets a challenge

Fairmont: The Cardinals have few weaknesses. QB Ben Kain throws well on the run and has a big-time playmaker behind him in RB Brandon Martin. The defense came up big in the semifinals, returning two interceptions for touchdowns and holding Annandale to 221 yards.

St. Croix Lutheran: Opponents will have to outscore the Crusaders, who feature a potent, quick-strike rushing offense. They've scored 30 or more points in every game and topped 50 points six times, including a 58-29 victory over Providence Academy in the semifinals.

The difference-maker: Will Fairmont's defense be disciplined enough to handle St. Croix Lutheran's veer offense?

David says: Running backs Jackson Goplen and Wesley Tucker will co-author the final chapter of a special journey. The duo is dynamic, clutch and too much for the Cardinals.

Jim says: Quarterfinal victory over Plainview-Elgin-Millville aside, St. Croix Lutheran's schedule has not been too taxing. That will hurt against a solid, battle-tested team like Fairmont.
