Ten top Minnesota boys’ swimmers to watch as season gets underway

Meets can be held starting Thursday, with swimmers among those not required to wear masks while competing.

With limited fans and athletes in most sports wearing masks during competition, Minnesota high school winter sports resume with games and meets starting Thursday. Seasons will be condensed, with fewer games, owing to the pandemic, but there’s still hope of state tournaments.


Top 10 swimmers to watch

(includes Class 2A state meet results from 2020, unless noted)

Evan Bock, Chaska/Chanhassen, senior: First in 100 butterfly, second in 50 freestyle. College: Wisconsin.

Charlie Crosby, Breck/Blake, junior: First in 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke in Class 1A. College: Texas.

Alex Deng, Eden Prairie, senior: Second in 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke. College: Yale.

Keegan Duffy, Edina, senior: Returning from a back injury. College: Undecided.

Nick Kale, Wayzata, senior: Fourth in 100 breaststroke. College: Purdue.

Tommy McCarthy, Edina, senior: Eighth in 100 butterfly. College: Minnesota.

James Pan, Breck/Blake, junior: Second in 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley in Class 1A. College: Undecided.

Noah Rabb, Andover, junior: Third in 100 backstroke. College: Undecided.

Matthew Walker, Edina, junior: Fifth in 200 freestyle. College: Undecided.

Hayden Zheng, St. Louis Park, senior: First in 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley. College: Stanford.
