Late TD runs by Jake Disterhaupt led unbeaten Moose Lake/Willow River.

Junior running back Jake Disterhaupt scored on runs of 13 and 56 yards in the final 5 minutes of the fourth quarter to power Moose Lake/Willow River past Pierz 26-20 on Friday, Nov. 11, in a Class 2A state quarterfinal matchup at St. Cloud State University.

Disterhaupt’s 13-yard run up the middle came with 4 minutes, 45 seconds remaining and allowed the Rebels (12-0) to tie the score at 20.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound speedster broke free down the left sideline for 56 yards on a third-and-long play with 1:36 left to provide the winning touchdown.

“It was so blank, it was, was this really happening?” Disterhaupt said about the winning touchdown. “Because against great teams like this, big runs don't happen often.”

Moose Lake’s Josh Cisar helped seal the victory with an interception with 70 seconds remaining on a deep throw by Pierz quarterback Preston Weber.

Pierz (10-2) had pulled ahead 20-13 with 8:52 left in the fourth on a 1-yard sneak by Weber.

Disterhaupt finished with 204 yards on 23 carries, and Chris Gassert had 104 yards on 19 carries.

“It feels so awesome,” Disterhaupt said about reaching the state Class 2A semifinals at the Metrodome. “It just made my day. I couldn't express myself enough in words.”

Weber completed 12 of 19 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. The Pioneers’ Josh Lammers rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.
