Eden Prairie 21, Prior Lake 7: Johnny Hartle ran for two touchdowns as the host Eagles (7-0) capped an unbeaten season with the victory over the Lakers for a Class 6A section championship. The game was tied 0-0 at halftime.
Fridley 62, DeLaSalle 0: Michael Ude rushed for six touchdowns — all in the first half — and 217 yards as the host Tigers rumbled to the Class 4A, Section 4 championship. Ude, who averaged 12.8 yards per carry, scored on runs of 26, 5, 1, 22, 4 and 14 yards as the Tigers led 49-0 at halftime.
Chanhassen 34, Waconia 7: Riley Funk threw three TD passes and Kurt Schaefer returned an interception 40 yards to fuel host Chanhassen’s victory in a Class 5A, Section 2 semifinal.
Mankato West 22, Chaska 15: Zander Dittbenner threw two TD passes to help the Scarlets rally for the Class 5A, Section 2 semifinal victory. The unbeaten Scarlets (6-0) trailed 15-3 at halftime.
Marshall 14, Jordan 10: Marshall rallied from a 10-point second quarter deficit for the Class 4A, Section 2 semifinal victory over the visiting Hubmen. Bryce Lance returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown and Demario Gaines scored on an 11-yard TD run for the Tigers.
Crossover section final: The final football game of the season Friday night in East Grand Forks took on a much different look — strictly a community event.
It was a Section 8 crossover matchup between Class 3A East Grand Forks and Class 1A Polk County West, a co-op between East Grand Forks Sacred Heart and Climax-Fisher.
Polk County West defeated East Grand Forks 21-20 in two overtimes.
East Grand Forks was originally scheduled to play Perham, but the Yellowjackets opted out of the revised schedule for the section playoffs. The Green Wave was originally scheduled to travel to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton for the semifinals.
Polk County West was rescheduled to play Mahnomen/Waubun for the section championship, but the Thunderbirds notified them late Thursday of a COVID-19 issue and had to forfeit. Polk County West was originally slated to play Red Lake County in the semifinals.
Many section tournaments juggled their schedules and flipped opponents to allow the top two seeds to play for the section title following Gov. Tim Walz’s announcement Wednesday to end the state’s football and volleyball seasons at 11:59 p.m. Friday.
Shakopee 35, Champlin Park 21: David Bigaouette threw two touchdown passes and Trevon Lusian ran for two touchdowns to lead the host Sabers to the victory in a Class 6A section championship game.
Simley 42, South St. Paul 26: Landan Duval rushed for four touchdowns — three in the second half — to help the Spartans rally for the Class 4A, Section 3 semifinal victory. Duval’s 1-yard TD run in the first two minutes of the second half gave Simley a 20-19 lead. He added TD runs of 1 and 15 yards in the fourth quarter.
Spring Lake Park 21, Irondale 0: Kaleb Skelly returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown and Nolan Tuomi intercepted three passes to lead the host Panthers to the Class 5A, Section 5 semifinal victory.
Minneapolis North 44, St. Agnes 0: Zach Yeager threw four touchdown passes and Mario Sanders scored three touchdowns to lead the Polars to the Class 2A, Section 4 championship.
Litchfield 55, Rockford 14: Ben Alsleben threw four TD passes in the first half to spark the host Dragons to the victory in the Class 3A, Section 2 championship game.
Andover named Class 5A, Section 7 champion: Andover was awarded the section championship without playing a playoff game. Only three teams were taking part in the section playoffs because of COVID issues. The Huskies (6-0), as the No. 1 seed, were scheduled to play Wednesday against No. 2 seed Cambridge-Isanti. Cambridge-Isanti defeated Coon Rapids 45-28 on Thursday.
Hermantown named Class 4A, Section 7 champion: Hermantown was declared the section champion. Hermantown, the No. 1 seed, defeated Duluth Denfeld 42-22 in a semifinal on Tuesday, while No. 3 seed North Branch, playing for the first time since Oct. 30, defeated No. 2 seed Cloquet 40-36 in the other semifinal on Thursday. The section championship was scheduled to be played next Wednesday.
Class 2A, Section 1 championship canceled: The game between Triton and Chatfield was called off because of COVID issues. Triton, the No. 2 seed, defeated Kenyon-Wanamingo 16-6 on Tuesday. Chatfield, the top seed, had its scheduled game on Tuesday against Lewiston-Altura called off.
