Jim Paulsen and David La Vaque size up three top metro-area games.

High school football playoffs begin Tuesday. Teams are looking to advance as Star Tribune prep reporters David La Vaque (16-5) and Jim Paulsen (17-4) seek Zoom meeting bragging rights.

White Bear Lake (2-3) at Champlin park (2-3), 7 p.m.

David says: Champlin Park lost its past three games. An overtime victory saved White Bear Lake from the same slump. The Rebels offer more to like in terms of offensive potency. Champlin Park 28 White Bear Lake 14

Jim says: Yeah, but Champlin Park’s three losses were to teams with a combined record of 13-3. After sitting out a week, the Rebs are itching to get back and prove the type of team they are. Champlin Park 33, White Bear Lake 20

Lakeville North (3-3) at centennial (2-4), 7 p.m.

David says: Neither team has suffered a bad loss. That said, having seen both, Lakeville North’s ceiling remains higher. The Panthers are eager for a regroup after the Farmington loss. Lakeville North 24, Centennial 17

Jim says: Lakeville North coming off a loss is dangerous. But Centennial coach Mike Diggins in a master motivator and the Cougars are better than their record. Centennial 24, Lakeville North 21

St. Louis Park (1-5) at Irondale (2-2), 5 p.m.

David says: Irondale’s offense got on track last week with four touchdowns behind dual-threat quarterback Jack Zupfer. And if a big kick is needed, few do it better than Noah Kiani. Irondale 27, St. Louis Park 10

Jim says: St. Louis Park just concluded a brutally tough regular season, when every opponent was at least .500. The Orioles match up well with Irondale, which hasn’t played in more than two weeks. St. Louis Park 38, Irondale 30
