Star Tribune roundup: Eagan nabs first win in three years

Alex Lachenmayer rushed for three touchdowns and Zach Jacobson rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown to help Eagan pull away for a 37-15 victory over visiting Eastview on Friday.

The victory ended a 27-game losing streak and was the Wildcats’ first since a 31-21 win over Shakopee on Sept. 22, 2017.

Eagan (1-4) led 9-0 in the second quarter before Eastview (0-4) scored with 3 minutes, 40 seconds left in the half to pull within 9-7.

Lachenmayer scored on a 2-yard run with 24 seconds left in the half and then scored on a 9-yard run in the first two minutes of the third quarter as the Wildcats extended their lead to 23-7.

Eastview scored with 5:20 left in the third quarter to pull within 23-15.

But Eagan put the game out of reach with two touchdowns in the final six minutes. Jacobson scored on an 11-yard touchdown run with 5:13 remaining. Lachenmayer sealed the victory with a 1-yard run with 49 seconds left.

Eden Prairie 35, Prior Lake 7: David Warren-Mitchell and Javon Palmer-Pruitt each rushed for two touchdowns as the Eagles, ranked No. 2 in Class 6A, ran past the host Lakers, ranked No. 6.

Hutchinson 20, Becker 7: Colin Nagel ran for two touchdowns to lead the host Tigers, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, past the Bulldogs, No. 6 in 4A. Lukas Paulson returned a kickoff 95 yards for a Bulldogs touchdown.

St. Michael-Albertville 49, Centennial 21: David Collins rushed for 227 yards and four touchdowns to lead the host Knights, ranked No. 3 in Class 6A, past Centennial. Collins scored on runs of 2, 3, 41 and 71 yards.

Minneapolis Roosevelt 26, Academy Force 23: August Butler’s 5-yard touchdown run with 36 seconds remaining lifted the host Teddies to the come-from-behind victory. The Teddies (3-2) trailed 23-8 late in the third quarter.

Brooklyn Center 22, Minneapolis South 20 [OT]: Max Maydum scored on a 16-yard run in overtime and Warren Kinney ran for the two-point conversion to help the Centaurs fend off the visiting Tigers. South scored first in the overtime on Demetrius Seay’s 5-yard TD pass to Kader Diop, but its two-point conversion failed.

405 and counting: Verndale defeated host Ortonville, 20-6, improved to 4-1 and gave coach Mike Mahlen his 405th career victory. Mahlen, who is in his 52nd season, is the winningest coach in state prep football history. His career record is 405-125-3. Verndale closes out its regular season with a home game against Rothsay on Wednesday.
