Minneapolis North senior running back Terrance Kamara announced on Twitter Thursday his intent to continue his football career at the University of Northern Iowa.
Kamara, a 5-9, 175-pound speedster, is the leading rusher in the metro area with 801 yards and seven touchdowns through four games for the undefeated Polars. A year ago he led the state with 2,369 yards and 32 touchdowns. He was considered among the top uncommitted seniors in Minnesota.
“It was actually a decision I made about a month ago, but I sat on it to make sure it was the best fit,” Kamara said. “I wanted a place that had a family feeling about it, not just about football. I wanted to go somewhere where they had my back.
Kamara had originally committed to Air Force last summer but reconsidered and reopened his recruitment in August. “After I committed there, it felt like a whole different coaching staff,” he said. “It didn’t feel right.”
Kamara chose Thursday to announce his decision because “it’s my dad’s birthday. I wanted to give him a birthday gift.”
“We talked about it last week and I told him I felt this is the spot for me,” Kamara said.
Kamara said his other two finalists were Central Michigan and Dartmouth.
