A recap of select games involving metro area teams.

After hastily finding an opponent on Friday morning, St. Michael-Albertville scrambled on the field seven hours later and rallied for a 31-13 victory over Champlin Park.

The Knights (3-0), ranked No. 5 in Class 6A, trailed 13-7 at halftime. The Knights — sparked by two second-half rushing touchdowns from David Collins — outscored the Rebels, ranked No. 6 in Class 6A, 24-0 in the second half.

The comeback started with a 25-yard field goal by Riley Purcell, which pulled the Knights within 13-10.

Late in the third quarter the Knights scored two touchdowns in 80 seconds to take control. Jack Drobinski threw a 29-yard scoring pass to Owen Neros and the point-after kick by Purcell gave the Knights the lead for good. Moments later, Collins scored on a 3-yard run.

Collins’ final touchdown came on a 1-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.

Cade Fitzgerald ran for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass for the Rebels (2-1).

The Knights’ defensive effort in the second half was highlighted by an interception by Jack Denne and a fumble recovery by Luke Johnson.

Orono 24, Chaska 14: Aidan Mueller ran for two touchdowns to help the Spartans, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A, hand defending Class 5A state champion Chaska its first loss. The Spartans led 21-7 going into the fourth quarter. The Hawks, the top-ranked team in Class 5A, pulled within 21-14 with 10 minutes left. The Spartans got a 39-yard field goal from Jack Kalman with three minutes left to close out the scoring.

Bemidji 35, Edina 0: In the first-ever meeting between the two football programs, the visiting Lumberjacks used a stifling defense to pull away in the second half. Brandon Lussier intercepted two passes and Isaiah Biehn had an interception for the Lumberjacks (2-1), who led 7-0 at halftime.

Bemidji was a fill-in opponent for the Hornets on a night when several teams had their schedules disrupted by COVID-related situations.

Elk River 44, Sauk Rapids-Rice 38: Carter Otto caught a 74-yard touchdown pass from Cade Osterman with 1 minute, 18 seconds remaining to lift the Elks to their first victory. Osterman ran for the two-point conversion to complete the comeback for the Elks (1-2), who trailed 38-24 at halftime. Osterman started the comeback with a 10-yard TD run midway through the third quarter. Jack Sumstad’s 5-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter got the Elks within 38-36.

Eden Prairie 36, Wayzata 13: David Warren-Mitchell threw two touchdowns and ran for a touchdown and Dan Knudsen returned an interception for a touchdown to lead the Eagles, ranked No. 2 in Class 6A, past the host Trojans.
