Aa first-time advance for Faribault and a 10-year streak broken for Glencoe-Silver Lake

SECTION 1
• LAKEVILLE NORTH 26, OWATONNA 7: The Panthers defense held Owatonna to one first down in the opening two quarters, and the Lakeville North offense took care of the rest in a lopsided victory over the Huskies on Friday night. Charlie Hayes had six catches for 100 yards. Brandon Morgan scored twice — once rushing, once receiving — in helping Lakeville North stay unbeaten on the season.
SECTION 3
• PRIOR LAKE 27, EASTVIEW 7: Using a dominating rushing attack, Prior Lake outgained the Lightning by more than 200 yards, helping the Lakers pull away in the second half and win the Section 3 title. Jack Kaiser rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown, and Jack Johnson gained 93 yards on 20 carries, pacing the Lakers offense. The score was tied 7-7 at halftime. Neither team committed a turnover. Lightning quarterback Ryan Reger completed 13 of 26 passes for 163 yards. Eastview’s lone touchdown came on a 54-yard pass in the second quarter.

SECTION 4
• HILL-MURRAY 14, MAHTOMEDI 12: The Pioneers (8-2) turned two key takeaways into touchdowns on their way to earning their first state tournament berth since 1987. Hill-Murray led 14-6 after three quarters. The Zephyrs (6-4) responded in the fourth when running back Jackson Hull scored his second touchdown of the night to cut their deficit to two, but Mahtomedi’s two-point conversion pass fell incomplete. Sophomore running back Dusty Krueger led the Pioneers offense with 25 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown. Hill-Murray will play Faribault on Friday at East Ridge High School in the state quarterfinals.
SECTION 6
• SPRING LAKE PARK 29, BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S 14: The Panthers reeled off four consecutive rushing touchdowns en route to the section title. The Red Knights jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 7-yard touchdown run by sophomore Keaton Studsrud, but Spring Lake Park responded with the next four touchdowns to take over the game. Senior Jordan Thimmesch-Slepica finished with 16 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns for the Panthers, and senior quarterback Brandon Jones added 14 carries for 101 yards.
SECTION 1
• FARIBAULT 28, RED WING 21: For the first time in the program’s history, Faribault advanced to the Class 4A state tournament with its victory at Bruce Smith Field in Faribault. The Falcons (7-3) overcame a 14-13 halftime deficit with second-half touchdowns from Mat Becker and Riley Jandro. With Red Wing (7-4) reaching the red zone, the Falcons defense made a fourth-down stop with less than four minutes left.
SECTION 2
• MANKATO WEST 55, HUTCHINSON 13: The Scarlets (10-0) were all over the Tigers (9-1) from the start. West senior Hunter Friesen returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, then caught touchdowns of 46 and 85 yards on the Scarlets’ first six offensive plays of the game. Senior quarterback Philip Nelson, a Gophers recruit, was 10-for-14 with 200 yards and four touchdowns for West.

SECTION 5
• PROVIDENCE ACADEMY 15, ROCKFORD 14: Senior running back Marshall Klitzke’s 20-yard touchdown run with three minutes remaining lifted Providence Academy to its first state tournament appearance. Klitzke gained 124 yards on 31 carries. Senior linebacker Phifer Nicholson had 15 tackles, which was key in holding Rockford to 134 total yards of offense. Rockford sophomore quarterback Brock Deering completed six of 15 passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns, both to senior wide receiver Nick Monssen.
SECTION 2
• HOLY FAMILY 49, MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN 31: Senior quarterback Michael Roane rushed for 210 yards on 22 carries as the Fire defeated the Millers. Roane ran for three touchdowns, all in the fourth quarter; added had 10 tackles on defense; and was 7-for-7 on extra points. On top of that, he completed two passes for 30 yards, including a 15-yarder for a touchdown. Tony Ayala threw three touchdown passes for Washburn.
SECTION 4
• ST. CROIX LUTHERAN 46, ST. ANTHONY 0: The Crusaders busted open an 8-0 first-quarter lead with 30 points in the second quarter. St. Croix Lutheran amassed 301 rushing yards and a 15-minute edge in time of possession. Senior running back Wesley Tucker was the main catalyst, rushing 17 times for 138 yards and four touchdowns. Senior quarterback Matt Olson also ran for a touchdown. He completed three of five pass attempts for 78 yards and another score to junior wide receiver Cody Sticha. The state trip is the second in program history for St. Croix Lutheran, with the first coming in 2006.
SECTION 3
• FAIRMONT 21, GLENCOE-SILVER LAKE 20: A missed 27-yard field-goal attempt with 39 seconds remaining sealed the upset by visiting Fairmont and deprived Glencoe-Silver Lake of a state tournament trip for the first time since 2001. Fairmont rallied from a 20-7 deficit with the final two touchdowns of the game. The first was on a 15-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Ben Kain in the third quarter. The Cardinals completed the rally on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Kain to senior running back Alek Borchardt with 1 minute, 46 seconds remaining, followed by a successful point-after attempt by senior kicker Buddy Anderson. Senior running back Tony Mizuhata carried the ball 24 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns for the Panthers.
