Eagan senior quarterback Drew Bauer is one game away from leading the Wildcats to their first state tournament appearance in school history.

To accomplish that feat, Bauer must lead the Wildcats past perennial power Cretin-Derham Hall in the Class 5A, Section 4 championship on Friday night.

Bauer ran for three touchdowns and passed for two in a 63-29 victory over Woodbury in the semifinals. He rushed for 214 yards and passed for 151 on the night.

Bauer also plays basketball and is a golfer. Here is a closer look at Bauer.

The best movie I've seen in the last year? "The Town."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ...? "We Must Be Heard" by Ludacris; "Megaman" by Lil Wayne; "Work Out" by J. Cole.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Knowledgeable, understanding, leader.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? Academics are emphasized in my family. I know what is expected of me and I know that they're important to my future.

How did you get started playing the sports you play now in high school? My dad took me to a lot of games of all sports. I loved football and have played from third grade on up and never lost interest. There was a long lineage of high school quarterbacks from my dad's side of the family. My dad and three of his brothers were high school quarterbacks for seven years in a row at his high school. I have played basketball since kindergarten and watched my brother play at the varsity level ahead of me, so that was motivation for me. Golf was in my family my whole life. I grew up with my grandpa, who owned a golf course and grew up on the golf course with my family and extended family.

What did you work on in the offseason to prepare for 2011-12? The offseason of one sport is the in-season of another. Otherwise, lifting weights, getting bigger, faster and stronger.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? The first play at quarterback my junior year, which was a 55-yard touchdown run.

To get focused for a game I ... take a nap, then sit down and think about or talk about the game plan.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? Not having to play behind a three-year starter at my positions.

When you have time off during vacation, what do you like to do? Hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors. Last Thanksgiving, I shot a 10-point buck.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? My mom and dad are from Wisconsin, so I'm a big Wisconsin fan. I love the Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. I'm a huge Aaron Rodgers fan.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... out of college with my master's or finishing up graduate school, have a great wife and starting a family in the near future.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Never take a play off because there will be a time when there will be no next play or next game, and you don't want to regret it.
