Staff writers David La Vaque and Jim Paulsen disagree on just about everything. Why? Big egos, of course. Tally so far: Jim 19, David 11.

LAKEVILLE SOUTH (7-2) AT LAKEVILLE NORTH (8-0), 7 P.M.

David says: Lakeville North 28, Lakeville South 14

South was preordained for greatness this season, but North emerged as the football boss in town. While it's true that for the past two seasons the regular-season loser got revenge in the playoffs, North ends it here with the sweep.

Jim says: Lakeville South 31, Lakeville North 24

Think Lakeville South hasn't thought about this rematch since losing to North three weeks ago? Think again. Revenge is a huge motivator. With the defense back to playing as well as it was early in the season, South will do just enough to even the score.

SOUTH ST. PAUL (8-1) AT HOLY ANGELS (8-1), 1 P.M.

David says: Holy Angels 20, South St. Paul 13

The Stars' defense really controls games well, and the unit will make the Packers pay for being a one-dimensional rushing offense. Playing at home against a South St. Paul team that has struggled in big games played on turf also serves the Stars well.

Jim says: South St. Paul 33, Holy Angels 14

Sure, South St. Paul's offense is not diversified, but it doesn't need to be. With Sam Sura and Harrison Rund churning out yards behind a physical line, why do anything else? And if you're talking defense, I'll just say this: Nine games, 48 points allowed, four shutouts. Which defense controls games?

CENTENNIAL (6-3) AT ANOKA (7-1), 7 P.M.

David says: Centennial 22, Anoka 21

Lest it be forgotten, the Cougars held a 20-7 first-quarter lead at home against the Tornadoes earlier this season. A group of inexperienced players learned a lot from coughing up that lead. And they will come of age pulling the upset at Goodrich Field.

Jim says: Anoka 36, Centennial 20

Lest it also be forgotten, Anoka rallied to win that game. And it has scored 148 points in three games since. The Tornadoes overwhelm opponents with their rushing attack, and, as in the first meeting, it's just a matter of time before the opponent cracks.

STILLWATER (7-2) AT MOUNDS VIEW (8-1), 7 P.M.

David says: Mounds View 31, Stillwater 10

Three consecutive playoff defeats of Stillwater give Mounds View the mental edge. An efficient running game and stout defense provide a physical edge. It all adds up to the Mustangs' fourth consecutive postseason victory in this series.

Jim says: Stillwater 22, Mounds View 14

Mounds View has had it in cruise control since holding off a Stillwater rally in Week 4. The Ponies have cleaned up their mistakes and have given up fewer than 10 points in three of their four victories since that loss. And they have a game-changer in big-play QB Nate Ricci that Mounds View doesn't have.

MARSHALL (9-0) AT HUTCHINSON (8-0), 7 P.M.

David says: Marshall 42, Hutchinson 28

Heard former Gophers coach Glen Mason say the other day that the best defense is a good offense. The Tigers immediately sprang to mind. They average 50.8 points per game and count a 34-point game as their lowest total. Hutchinson cannot shut them down or keep up.

Jim says: Hutchinson 30, Marshall 20

Seems that every year Marshall puts up a good record that catches the eye. And then the Tigers are exposed as the only Class 4A team in the Southwestern Minnesota Conference, a league otherwise filled with 3A and 2A teams. Marshall has not seen a team as rough and rugged as Hutch. The undefeated season ends here.

EAGAN (5-4) AT WOODBURY (6-3), 7 P.M.

David says: Woodbury 28, Eagan 17

Woodbury has struggled against quarterbacks who can run well, but if the Royals are able to shore up their defense against Drew Bauer, they have a shot. And Woodbury's offense can score in bunches. Playing on their home turf will aid their cause.

Jim says: Eagan 36, Woodbury 33

Eagan cut its teeth on a brutal early-season schedule, trading losses for a battle-tested attitude. After a rout of Rosemount in the regular-season finale and an easy tuneup over Minneapolis South on Tuesday, the Wildcats are healthy and ready to show off their battle-tested attitude.

MAPLE GROVE (4-5) AT OSSEO (8-1), 7 P.M.

David says: Maple Grove 14, Osseo 13

Osseo won the first game 13-2 on a night where light poles moved in the wind like joysticks. Even so, the Crimson threw well in spurts while the defense took away QB D.J. Hebert and RB Bridgeport Tusler. This time, Maple Grove finishes the job.

Jim says: Osseo 26, Maple Grove 20

On paper, this looks like the classic trap game for Osseo, playing a team it has already defeated with the section final on the horizon. But this is an intradistrict rivalry between teams that have played each other since peewees. Osseo has its Crimson-colored glasses on and is looking no further.
