Tuesday night's action in the sectional football playoffs:

CLASS 5A, SECTION 7

Defense helps Blaine overcome bad start to beat Coon Rapids

• BLAINE 21, COON RAPIDS 17: Blaine was limited to a little more than 50 yards of total offense in the first half against Coon Rapids on Tuesday night. A second-half surge was helped by the Bengals defense, which prevented the Cardinals from retaking the lead late in the fourth quarter with key interceptions from Andrew Hite and Steven Schneider.

• ST. FRANCIS 28, ANDOVER 19: Senior running back Jake Engnell rushed 32 times for 148 yards and one touchdown for the Saints in St. Francis. The second-seeded Saints will play host to Blaine in the semifinals on Saturday.

CLASS 5A, SECTION 3

• EASTVIEW 14, BURNSVILLE 7: After an Eastview three-and-out to open the game, Burnsville drove down the field to take an early 7-0 lead. The Blaze continued to move the ball in the first half but could muster no more points. Eastview scored with about 7 minutes left on a go-ahead 3-yard touchdown run by Eric Krupke. Eastview had 217 yards rushing for the game, which pitted Eastview senior quarterback Ryan Reger against his younger cousin, sophomore Burnsville quarterback Will Reger.

• BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 28, APPLE VALLEY 0: Kennedy started slow but ended up dominating Apple Valley, which never came close to scoring. Kennedy senior running back Lexis Jones led all rushers with 119 yards on 22 carries while sophomore quarterback Travon Hearns completed eight of 14 passes for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

• PRIOR LAKE 42, BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 3: Junior running back Trevor Maxwell gained 138 yards on 11 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Prior Lake rushing attack pushed the Lakers past Jefferson. Senior Jack Kasier accounted for 101 of Prior Lake's 350 rushing yards. He helped his squad overcome a slow start that left the Lakers in a 3-0 hole in the second quarter. Charlie Fitch's 32-yard field goal was Jefferson's only score.

CLASS 5A, SECTION 4

• EAST RIDGE 33, HASTINGS 14: Senior Dayo Ogundepo rushed for 125 yards on 11 carries, helping East Ridge break away from Hastings in the second half. East Ridge quarterback Brandon Johnson threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter to push the game out of reach. Hastings' Tyler Mellick rushed 26 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns.

• EAGAN 50, MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH 0: Senior running back Michael Busch had four touchdowns, all in the first half, as Eagan (5-4) eased past South. The Wildcats advance to play the section's No. 2 seed, Woodbury (6-3), on Saturday.

CLASS 5A, SECTION 5

• OSSEO 34, ARMSTRONG 0: Osseo running back Tim Searcy faced little resistance from the Falcons' run defense, racking up 152 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries to lead the Orioles (8-1) to their eighth consecutive victory.

CLASS 4A, SECTION 3

• SIMLEY 49, ST. LOUIS PARK 13: Senior quarterback Nick Wanzek rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead No. 4-seeded Simley over No. 5-seeded St. Louis Park.

• HOLY ANGELS 21, HENRY SIBLEY 7: The Stars (8-1) used a two-pronged rushing attack to take down the Warriors. Junior running back Mikias Alipate had 14 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown. Junior quarterback Sam Keis added seven carries for 104 yards and a touchdown.

CLASS 4A, SECTION 5

• BECKER 35, PRINCETON 8: Junior quarterback Tommy Benson completed 11 of 16 passes for 138 yards and four touchdowns, helping Becker pull away from Princeton. Senior running back Andrew Reid added 168 yards on 17 carries for Becker.

CLASS 4A, SECTION 4

• ST. PAUL CENTRAL 45, NORTH BRANCH 7: Seniors led the way for Central. LaDra Kilgore-Hodges had 16 carries for 126 yards and one touchdown. D.J. Johnson carried 10 times for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Montrell Williams caught seven passes for 102 yards, and quarterback Seamus Walsh completed 10 of 12 passes for 168 yards and one touchdown.

CLASS 3A, SECTION 4

• MINNEHAHA ACADEMY 28, ST. PAUL JOHNSON 20: The Redhawks overcame an early 20-point deficit to eliminate the Governors. Junior quarterback Bjorn Halvorson led the rally, running for two touchdowns (1 and 7 yards) and passing for another. Senior Xavier Scott returned a fumble 21 yards for a touchdown prior to halftime, pulling Minnehaha Academy within 20-14. Halvorson ran for both of his scores in the second half.

CLASS 3A, SECTION 2

• HOLY FAMILY 42, JORDAN 0: Senior quarterback Michael Roane ran for 175 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 100 yards and a touchdown. He made seven tackles on defense, kicked two extra points and, just for good measure, booted a kickoff 65-plus yards for a touchback. It was all part of Holy Family's dominating victory over Jordan. The section's top seed, Holy Family led 35-0 at halftime.

CLASS 3A, SECTION 6

• ANNANDALE 21, NEW LONDON-SPICER 20: New London-Spicer's Adam Essler returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 94 yards to take a 20-14 lead with nine minutes to play. Seventh- seeded Annandale's final drive covered 60 yards in five minutes, culminating in a 1-yard touchdown sneak by junior quarterback John Kalthoff. The drive was kept alive on an 18-yard completion by Kalthoff to junior wide receiver Brett Ahsenmacher on fourth-and-10 with 1 minute to play. Kalthoff scored two plays later.
