Namesake: As the Panthers began building a new football field on campus, they ran into a seating problem. The home bleachers at the old Allen Field were sent to the new field's visitors side, leaving home fans with no place to sit.

"We were getting to the point of thinking maybe we'd have a year with no home games," retired G-SL activities director Kathy Olson said.

Enter the Stevens Seminary Foundation, a former teacher's college, which earned naming rights by donating $500,000 to construct the home bleachers. The new stadium opened in 2005 and the Panthers went 33-0 at home until a loss in 2010. They won three consecutive Class 3A titles from 2006-08 and took second in 2009.

While Allen Field sat a half-mile off campus, Olson said the grass field at Stevens Seminary Stadium sits "right out our back door."

"It really is a perfect Friday night, small-community feeling," Olson said.
