The Tigers' defense held the Eagles to just 101 yards of total offense in shutout

Last Friday night, the Browerville Tigers’ football team traveled to New York Mills. The Tigers played well to pick up their sixth straight victory defeating the Eagles 36-0.

The Eagles received the ball to open up the game. After a quick first down, the Tigers clamped down to force a punt.

The Tigers then ran an 11 play scoring drive capped off by a Seth Kellen two-yard touchdown run. The Tigers converted the two-point conversion on a pass from Kellen to Kyle Petermeier. This gave the Tigers an 8-0 lead.

After a quick three and out by the Eagles, they were foced to punt. However, they were able to catch the Tigers off guard with a fake punt pass which picked up 13 yards and a first down.

The Tigers then stopped the Eagles after three plays and got the ball back. On this drive, the Tigers had an 18 play drive. A holding call took away a great run by Ben Dreher and forced the Tigers into a fourth and goal from the 14. The Tigers decided to go for it and it turned out to be a good decision when Mitch Heid lofted a perfectly thrown ball to Petermeier in the back of the end zone.

“Heid put the ball where only Kyle could get it and he went up and made a nice grab on fourth down,” head coach Wayne Petermeier said.

Kellen kicked the extra point to give the Tigers a 15-0 lead.

The Eagles got the ball back and ran eight plays but couldn’t do any damage before the half.

The second half was much like the first. The Tigers took the ball to open the half. After a few short runs, Dreher got a nice hole from the offensive line and ran it 46 yards for a score.

The Tigers’ next possession would be a little different as the Tigers had a few negative yard plays to back them up into a long yardage situation. Kellen was able to scramble to buy enough time to find Petermeier for a 30-yard touchdown. This time Petermeier needed a couple of moves and a dash for the pylon to score.

The Eagles then got the ball back but quickly gave it back after Petermeier intercepted a pass.

In the fourth quarter, the Tigers picked up some first downs before Jackson Pollak made a fantastic 45-yard touchdown run from the quarterback position. This would end the scoring for the night.

“On offense, our linemen were key as we were able to have two very long and time consuming drives in the first half,” coach Petermeier said. “I could not be happier how we blocked.”

The Tigers rushed for 321 yards on the night. Dreher rushed for 160, Trenton Wollenburg finished with 69.

Heid and Kellen combined to go 5/9 passing for 61 yards. Petermeier grabbed 4 of those passes for 51 yards.

The Tigers gave up a total of 46 yards rushing and 55 passing on the night. Of those 55 yards passing, 42 came on a screen pass that was perfectly thrown over the top of a lineman’s outstretched hand. The other 13 yards were on the fake punt pass.

Petermeier and Wollenburg each had an interception to stop Eagle drives.

With the win, the Tigers were able to clinch the Prairie Conference South championship.

The Tigers will have a short week when they travel to Osakis to take on the Silverstreaks in a battle of 6-1 teams.
